- Ryonan's POV -
We stood on a net, and by we I mean my siblings, Rotxo, and the Sully kids. "I am Tuktirey! People just call me Tuk though" The youngest girl, Tuk, introduced. Tsireya giggled, "I am Tsireya, this is my brother Aonung, and my sister, Ryonan!"
Aonung just nodded and I looked at them. "I'm Kiri" The girl said and when she looked at me, she did it with slight confusion in her face.
I understood what her confusion meant. I was nothing like my siblings, nor Metkayina. I was a different shade of blue ( not too different) green eyes, and I had dark grey colored hair. My tail was different too, it wasn't fish-like, like theirs. Which is why I keep it hidden. I have a green beaded top, and my bottom piece hides my tail.
"I am Neteyam, this is my bro, Lo'ak" Neteyam introduced himself, and pointed at Lo'ak in the end. Lo'ak and I made eye contact again, and I could feel my gaze soften so I quickly looked away. After introductions were over, we jumped into the water. Tsireya, Aonung, Rotxo and I dived in perfectly. The rest jumped in like amateurs. My siblings and Rotxo dove and swam pretty deep down, but the newcomers stayed where they dived and looked around with amazement in their eyes.
I stayed near them, seeing their reactions. They reminded me... of me. I was young when I first got here, 10 to be exact. I was taught the ways of the Metkayina, and at some point I even became better at swimming and breathing than others.
Kiri suddenly disappeared but I didn't mind, something within her just.. it makes sense. We all started to swim farther until the 3 had to go up for air. Lo'ak looked into the water and Tsireya signed for them to come swim with us.
Lo'ak didn't understand what she signed and Neteyam put his head underwater too. I waved for them to come, which that they understood. They dove back down and we continued swimming.
They slowly started swimming towards us, but halfway through they had to go back up for air. The 4 of us turned to each other, "what's wrong with them?" Aonung signed, "those guys are bad at diving" Rotxo signed back.
"stop. They're learning." Tsireya butted in making me laugh a little. Aonung rolling his eyes. We swam up to them, "Are you alright?" Tsireya asked, "you're too fast! Wait for us" Tuk whined. "Just breathe.. breathe" Reya answered.
Aonung resurfaced, "You are not good divers.. maybe good at swinging through trees but-" Aonung started but I cut him off with a hit to his head, "Aonung. Enough" I glared at him and his smile immediately disappeared and instead, was replaced with a small frown.
"C'mon bro" Lo'ak said and Neteyam spoke up, "We don't speak this finger talk you guys. We do not know what you're saying" He said, "Do not worry, Neteyam, we will teach you." I answered.
"But wait, where's Kiri?" Rotxo asked, "Kiri?" Tuk muttered, "who?" Aonung said which made me roll my eyes, "Yeah, Kiri. Where is she?" He asked again.
Neteyam turned around trying to see if she was at the surface.- after more swimming
"Ee!" Aonung started calling for the Ilu, "These are Ilu. If you want to live here, you need to ride" He explained.
Tsireya was helping Lo'ak, and Aonung with Neteyam. "Look at your weak arms! You're going to fall off immediately" I heard Aonung laugh at Neteyam. I went over and pet the Ilu, then gave Aonung a look he was too familiar with. He groaned and went away.
"Sorry for Aonung, he's not as mean as he seems." I apologized to Neteyam, his gaze softened with a little smile, "It's alright" He said.
"Here, get on him." I explained and he got on the way I wanted him too. "When you ride, you move your legs.... up? Hold on, it's hard to explain. I'll give you an example instead" I said and started to make clicking noises to call my Ilu.
Soul swam up happily and she swam around us. She finally went in front of me and I pet her, then looked at Neteyam, "This is your Ilu?" He asked in amazement, "I've never seen one like her.."
I smiled, "Yeah, she's special to me. Ok now, you put your hands here.." I took his hand and placed it on where they're supposed to go, "Uh huh" He said.
I took my hands away and stood next to them, "Then when you're ready, you make the bond" I told him and he grabbed his hair and I held up the Ilu's.
He put them together, and I felt the bond myself for some reason. The Ilu breathed heavily and Neteyam seemed focused. "When going under, bring your legs closer the his body to stay on. Go slower if you feel you cannot go fast."
When Neteyam was about to go under, Lo'ak went first. He made it pretty far before being pushed off, they all laughed, even Tsireya giggled.
Tuk rode well, so did Kiri who suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Neteyam also rode well, not the best but still, better than Lo'ak.
- later
"Breathe in..." Tsireya instructed and inhaled air, "breathe out." She let go of the air, everyone following shat she did. "You must slow down your heart beat" She said softly and a hand on Lo'ak's heart and stomach.
"Breathe from down here" She said and he breathed in, "Breathe out slowly" she said and he did as told, looking at her. "Lo'ak, your heart beat is fast" Tsireya told him, "sorry" he whispered and looked away, this time at me.
Rotxo and Neteyam looked at each other, laughing quietly. Kiri looked at them with an 'are you serious?' expression on her face. I let out a small chuckle and gave Lo'ak a look that said, 'you are doing well'
Lo'ak and I were now practicing diving and breathing. "The sea is your home. Before your birth.. and after your death. Our hearts beat, in the womb of our world. Our breathe burns in the shadows of the deep. The sea gives, and the sea takes. Water connects all things... life to death"
I heard Tsireya's voice in my head. "I am going to throw this sea shell, I want you to dive after it and bring it back up all in one trip" I told him. He nodded and I threw it down. He took a deep breathe then went underwater.
After about 3 minutes, he resurfaced, and with the shell. "YEAH!" He whooped and I laughed, "Great job Lo'ak" I smiled and he looked at me keeping his smile. I looked into his eyes and he just smiled wider. I paused, "Let's go back" I swam back to shore with him behind me.
- later in the day
I heard a hiss near the water so I turned my head to see my idiot brother and his friends bothering the sully's.
The sully's started to walk away so I didn't think much of it until I heard a 'thwack' Lo'ak had punched Aonung. "It's called a punch bitch. Don't ever touch my sister again!" He said, Aonung, being the idiot he is, hissed and tackled Lo'ak to the ground.
I sighed as I watched all the boys ganging up on Lo'ak. I saw Neteyam sigh before jumping in and punching one of them.
It was now an all out brawl, "stop it!" Kiri tried getting them to stop. I walked over, "Aonung" I said but they kept fighting, "Rotxo stop" I tried saying again, but still they kept fighting.
"ENOUGH" I yelled and a strong gust of wind had blown everyone back, except Kiri and I. They all stopped and looked at me, "Come here, now." I looked at Rotxo and Aonung. They slowly got up and walked over to me.
I grabbed Aonung's ear and pulled him down closer to me, "Ow! Sis-" He tried but I cut him off, "Don't make me go to mother for this." I said and he stopped so I let go. I looked at Aonung and his friends, "Listen here" I started and gave them all a piercing gaze, "If I see you messing with any one of them again, I will take these matters into my own hands. Now leave" I finished and they all ran off.
I heard the siblings laughing lightly. I clicked my tongue and turned to them, "I apologize on their behalf." Was the only thing I said before walking away, the winds picking up a bit.
