12. Swim

Im wrote like 4 chapters nonstop.. here u go 😭

- Ryonan POV -

It's been about 1 month and 2 weeks since the Sully's arrived. Everything has been well, Lo'ak and I continue to get closer each day.

I was watching the kids play by the shore, enjoying their time. "Ryonan! Mother is calling you" I heard someone shout. I turned to see that it was Tsireya who called out to me, "At our cot!" She finished and walked off.

I got up and dusted off some of the sand on my legs. As I started walking back, I suddenly yelled out in pain. I fell to my knees, pain surging throughout my whole body. I felt on fire, "FUCK!" I yelled, bending over and hugging myself hard.

"Sis!" I heard some of the kids yell. Tears were in my eyes, so everything was blurry and I couldn't hear well. All I heard was ringing.

"$/$3@!" One of the kids shouted. I gasped out, trying to breathe. "/&:!2" Was the last thing I heard before the pain stopped.

I was breathing hard, I felt people surrounding me, hands trying to see if I was ok. I slowly looked up to see Neteyam in front of me with such a worried expression. On the left, was Ronal.

I started to cry, "Mother... something is wrong" I said and a tulkun wail could be heard. She lightly gasped, "The Tulkun are in trouble..."

I quickly got up, feeling a little sore. Neteyam helped me up, "What are you doing?! You need to rest, i'll carry you to the cot-" He started but I cut him off, "No- I need to go" I lightly pushed him off and followed after Ronal but he grabbed my arm, "Ryonan, please, if you feel any pain tell me. I will help you" Neteyam softened the grip on my arm and I held his hand, "I will" Was all I said before I let go and left.

- a little later

We rode up to the dead mother Tulkun and her child. That Tulkun was Ronal's spirit sister.. She got off her Ilu and swam up to her.

Sitting on her fin and started to cry. Ronal looked over to see the dead child, and cried harder. "She was my spirit sister.." She breathed out, "She was the composer of songs! We would sing together! She waited so long to have this calf- I was so happy for her.." She cried.

"What is this Tonowari?! WHAT IS THIS?!?" She yelled. I watched in pain, slowly riding over to her calf. "Oh no..." I whispered.

- back at the village

"My spirit sister.. and her baby have been MURDERED by the sky people!" Ronal told everyone. War yelps were heard across the crowd, and hisses were too. "THIS WAR HAS COME TO US. WE KNEW ABOUT THIS HUNTING OF OUR TULKUN PEOPLE" Tonowari yelled.

The crowd got hyped up, ready for a fight. Tsireya was crying and I was trying to comfort her but honestly.. all I could feel was rage.

"You don't- You gotta understand how the sky people think! They don't care about the great balance" Jake told everyone. "We don't care about the sky people!" Someone from the crowd yelled.

"Listen to him" Neteyam shouted, "The sky people aren't going to stop- This is only the beginning! You gotta tell your people to leave" Jake yelled. "You gotta tell them to go far away!" He finished.

"LEAVE?! You are a member among us.. and you learned nothing!" Ronal shouted. "WE WILL FIGHT TO PROTECT OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS!" Another random shouted from the crowd.

Jake was right.. I could feel it. People are going to get hurt in this war... but everyone does at some point. I was too blinded by anger.. rage.

"IF YOU ATTACK. IF YOU FIGHT.. THEY WILL DESTROY YOU- THEY WILL DESTROY EVERYTHING THAT YOU LOVE!" Jake yelled. More shouts uprised.

"HEAR MY WORDS!" Jake tried to reason, "Stay calm!" Neteyam said. Neteyam, who was holding the device, stopped talking when his dad took the device and raised it up for everyone to see.

The crowd got quiet, "You tell the Tulkun.. that if they get hit by one of these they're marked for death." Jake spoke, everyone still quiet. "You call to me.. and i'll silence it. Saving their lives, that's all that matters.. right? Saving your family" Jake reasoned, and it worked.

Tonowari turned to Ronal for approval, before looking at the crowd, "Tell the tulkun." He said and everyone went.

I saw Lo'ak and Neteyam talking near the water. Just from the look of it, I could tell what Lo'ak wanted to do. I wanted to do it too..

I walked up to them, and it seems that conversation turned into an argument. "Bro.. why do you always have to go make things difficult?" Neteyam said, putting his hand in Lo'ak's head.

Lo'ak pushed him off, "No.. you mean why can't I be the perfect son like you?" He said, Neteyam was annoyed by this, "The perfect little soldier like you?" Lo'ak continued.

"WELL I'M NOT YOU. Ok? I'm not you" Lo'ak yelled. Neteyam got up in his face, "He is my brother. I'm going." Lo'ak said and started to walk away, "Oh he's your brother? No IM. your brother" Neteyam grabbed him.

I stepped in, and my siblings and Rotxo came. Lo'ak glanced at them before jumping into the water. "LO'AK" Neteyam yelled after him. I immediately called to Soul and jumped in the water, she comes fast when she knows I need her. I grabbed onto her reign and quickly went after Lo'ak.

A few seconds later, everyone else jumped in. We passed by Kiri and Tuk, them also following after. He found Payakan and I arose next to him. Payakan looked worried, "What is it?! What's wrong?!" Lo'ak yelled with his sign.

Payakan turned to show the device on him. "SHIT" Lo'ak yelled. "No.." I whispered and quickly jumped off soul, getting on Payakan and trying to pull out the device.

Lo'ak joined and we both pulled together. I turned to see the ship coming, and so did Lo'ak, "SHIT" He yelled again, trying to pull the device out faster.

Neteyam came quickly, "Bro c'mon help us out!" He yelled. Everyone came soon after, trying to pull off the device. "Lo'ak- call dad. CALL DAD GO JUST DO IT" Neteyam instructed and Lo'ak hesitated before touching his neck thing.

Payakan thrilled and I turned to him for a quick second, "Do not worry my brother, we got this" I reassured and looked back to see that they still didn't get the device out. Neteyam passed them a rope and tied it to the device, trying to pull it off with his Ilu.

The ship started to come closer, and soon we finally got the device out. "YES!" I shouted as everyone fell into the water, "Go that way, i'll throw them off" Neteyam told, holding the device in his hands.

Lo'ak rode with Payakan and we all swam the opposite way of Neteyam. We hid within the seaweed, hoping they wouldn't find us. Unfortunately, they had underwater ships that started to swim our way so we had to swim away.

We were struggling to evade them, and some of us were falling off our ilu's due to the leaves. They were gaining up on me and Tsireya, I saw that they had a clear shot on her ilu.

The second they shot, I got infront of it, letting Soul get hit with the booey. I fell off her, and the machines were getting closer to me. As soon as it was about to take me, Lo'ak came and pulled me away safely. He put one hand on the back of my thigh and I held on tightly.
