-George-

As a little tradition in my house, on the first night at Dad's house little Ava always gets to pick what we were going to have for dinner and tonight she wanted beef stroganoff. She says it's easy to make and I always make it "yummy".

Score one for Dad.

I make the stroganoff and pour it out from the pan onto three plates. Ava likes to help set the table, she hums and dances happily around the table setting a spot for each of us.

"Daddy sits here, Uncle Charlie sits here, and I will sit here." She announces.

"Can you go tell uncle Charlie that dinner is ready for me princess?" I ask as I grab a couple of beers out of the refrigerator and a Capri Sun for Ava.

She nods.

"Okay daddy."

She goes upstairs. I grab a couple of glasses filling them with ice as well as a small pink cup as I know that Ava likes to "fit in with the grown ups" by having a cup of ice for her juice. She comes back downstairs.

"Uncle Charlie is asleep Daddy, do you want me to wake him up?"

I shake my head helping her up in her chair.

"No sweetie, it's okay. He's been sad and tired a lot. I think he needs to get some rest. I'll put his food in the fridge for him to eat later."

I wrap his plate in plastic wrap and put it on the shelf of the refrigerator. I sit down across from Ava.

"Does it taste good baby girl?" I ask, smiling at her.

She nods, stuffing a big forkful in her mouth and giving me a thumbs up. She stops chewing.

"You always make it yummy. Mommy sometimes makes it too sticky. I don't like it when it's sticky."

That's two points for Dad now. I laugh and take a bite of the food, not to brag but I do make one hell of a mean stroganoff. Look out Gordon Ramsey I'm coming for your ass.

"Hey Ava, I want to ask you a question but can you promise to keep it between you and Daddy?"

She nods.

"I'm good at keeping secrets."

I take a sigh and hesitate for a moment. I am talking to a 4 year old that may or may not go and spread what I have to say to her around and have it get to the wrong person. Yet again, I need to know how she feels about this. She may not understand what's going on but I need to put it into consideration that I wouldn't want to make her upset.

"Super, my question is I know you love Uncle Charlie, and Daddy loves him too. Please tell me the truth I will not be mad, if Daddy starts dating Uncle Charlie, will you be sad?"

For a minute all she did was look at me with her eyes widened. I frown fearing that I either made her upset or just confused the fuck out of her.

"Does this mean you hate Mommy?" She asks quietly, looking down at her plate.

I shake my head waving my hands.

"No no no no sweetie, I will never hate her. I still love and care about Mommy. This is something completely different. You know how Mommy goes on a date and you see her with a guy? It's the same thing, but Daddy would be dating a guy instead of a girl. Mommy knows this and she is okay with it, I just want to make sure you are too."

I watch as her expression changes from sad to happy. She nods.

"Okay daddy. I will be happy if you are happy. I don't want you to be mad at Mommy."
