GARBA NIGHT

There appeared my moon, there she was shining just like a dew drop on the petal of a rose, smiling and dazzling in the white kathiawadi attire.

My eyes were all on her. The longing in my eyes was over, my wait was over. I could see her in front of my eyes, my beloved, the person whom I loved the most in the entire world was there in front of my eyes. I had waited for four long years to catch a small glimpse of her and seeing her in front of my eyes was the biggest deal for me.

She hadn't noticed me yet. I was eagerly waiting for her to look at me. It had been four long years since I had felt her gaze. I waved to her, probably she didn't see me and her friends took her away for the Garba. I sighed waiting for her to look at me again. Just then, Arjun approached me and placed his hand on my shoulder.

"Isn't my Keekli looking pretty?" he asked eyeing Mishika referring to her as Keekli what he used to call her from her childhood.

I nodded not shifting my gaze elsewhere. Indeed she was the prettiest person on the earth.

"Why don't you join her?" he asked.

I turned to him immediately as what he just said took my attention.

"What?" I asked out of astonishment.

I was staring at him and he smirked and replied "Don't give me that look, I am her brother but I am your friend as well and not a hangman to not let the lovers meet"

I gasped out of surprise and said "Are you sure Arjun?"

"Yes," he said patting my shoulder.

I was about to go but my smile disappeared as I realized I didn't know to play garba.

"What happened?" Arjun peered at me and asked.

"Well, I don't know to play Garba"

Arjun coughed "Karv! You are of no use, you were dating a Gujarati girl, and how on earth you don't even know to play garba?" he asked sarcastically.

"As if we were together for a long time" I too reply sarcastically.

"Well, that's all your fault" he replied glaring at me.

I ruffled my hair and asked for help. He patted my back again and asked me to get along with him, he would teach me a few steps maybe. I followed him and he made me practice a few steps before I would enter the ground.

After a few minutes, he looked up and down at me and said "It's okay for now you've learned enough of Garba, let's go"

We went to the ground, I first joined hands before the deity Goddess Durga and prayed for Mishika and my reunion. The music started and I finally joined the crowd for the garba. After a couple of rounds, I bumped into someone. To my surprise it was her. It was Mishika!

Mishika kept staring at me as if she had seen the most unexpected thing. As if she was looking at a unicorn or an alien. She continued looking at me for a few minutes. I could see pain and anger altogether emerging in her eyes.

Why won't she be angry and upset? It was me who had broken her heart. Because of me, she hadn't met her family in four years. It was because of me that she had stayed away from everyone. She was punishing others because of me.

To my surprise, she gave me a sarcastic smile to me and continued playing garba. We came across each other quite a few times but she reacted as if my presence didn't even matter to her. Arjun joined us in the Garba and then he took Mishika along with her. He then gestured for me to come up to him.
