Y/N's POV

My light giggle could be heard around the castle, my best friend Sans chasing after me after I had stolen his ketchup. He'd started getting into the bad habit of just eating it straight out of the bottle after he had tried it at Grillby's when it had dumped out on his fries.

"Y/N! Give it back!" Sans yelled from behind me.

"No!" I yelled back with a giggle, running into the throne room and hiding behind the large legs of my father, the king of the monsters. He was talking to mister Gaster at the time, both letting out surprised laughter once sans found me and started to chase me in circles around my father's legs.

We both huff out exhausted breaths when our fathers pick us up to stop the fighting, mine holding me against his side while mister Gaster used one of his floaty hands to pick up Sans by the back of his jacket like a little kitten. His hands were already filled with a baby Papyrus, Sans' younger brother, and papers in his other hand of stuff I couldn't understand.

"Now now children, what is with all this persistent chasing?" mister Gaster asked, his brow bones raised in confusion but amused.

I dropped my head, feeling guilty about getting us in trouble. Without looking at them, I held out the ketchup bottle, showing that it was me that started it. There was silent laughter, being covered by a cough before the bottle was gently taken from my tiny hand.

"You know it isn't nice to take other people's things, Y/N." my daddy said, holding me up to look him in the face. I sniffle, giving him a sad look, "I know daddy," I respond, which leads him to give me a reassuring look.

"Although I do agree with you that it is a bad habit for my son to drink that, my dear, I must also agree with your father that it is not very polite to take others belongings, especially if the ask politely for it to be returned," mister Gaster said, making us both turn our heads to him, a very grumpy Sans still dangling from the floaty hand, not really liking being held like this. I tried my best to contain my giggles, little sputters getting past my hands, making Sans look up and smile at my failed attempt at being silent.

"Y/n, I assume you'd like to apologize to your friend, my child," daddy said, finally placing me on the ground after kissing my temple. I nod my head, turning to see Sans finally being placed down as well, much to his relief, adjusting his dark blue t-shirt that had some sort of sciency thing on it. Before he could finish, I quickly launched myself at him in a tight hug, tucking my head on his shoulder, much to his surprise.

"I'm so sorry for being mean, Sansy. I promise to not take something of yours again," I said, knowing how serious we both were with promises. He finally hugs me back, giving me a quiet 'Thank you' before we both let go, smiling at each other happily, our previous fight already long gone as we grabbed each other's hand and started running for the exit of the throne room, planning on playing in my room once again, leaving two adults laughing behind us.

3rd POV

Years had gone by in a flash, both children still too young to realize what was going on as they heard the announcement from the booming voice of the king of the Underground.

"The humans have once again taken from us! This morning, my son Asriel was killed by the humans from above not long after our daughter Chara had died from sickness." The hurt and anger in his voice could be heard over the entire crowd, everyone afraid and grieving for the loss of the prince and princess. The ten year-old skeleton held his best friend close as she cried, missing her sister and brother, but grew silent as his next words shook the soul of everyone around them.

"It is with this that I'm declaring war on the humans! From now on, any human that sets foot in the Underground will be killed! With their souls we can finally break the barrier and reclaim our spot on the surface!" he exclaimed, causing an uproar among the monsters below, some agreeing with the king while others called out in protest to the king's order.

There was one being he had neglected to think about, the little girl he loved so dearly. Her body shook with fright as she held onto her best friend, her long (h/c) fell over one of her eyes as she stared up at the man she called father as he turned around. His eyes met hers, guilt taking over his whole being as he saw the absolute terror on the innocent girl's face. He reached out to her, only to draw back in surprise when there was a low growl coming from the young skeleton beside her, holding her closer to protect her before, for the first time, teleporting away. He couldn't go too far, considering his lack of skill and magic, and landed in the girl's room, both seeming to get pretty dizzy from the action.

Once they had both calmed down, Sans grabbed her once again, his face showing the seriousness behind his words. "Y/n, I promise to protect you. What King Asgore said was wrong and I don't want you to get hurt because of this," he said, gaining a small smile from the girl before they hugged each other once again, only to be interrupted by the girl's door opening, revealing a very peeved Toriel.

"My child, we must leave. It is no longer safe for you here." the goat mother said, hastily gathering up a large suitcase they'd typically use for each of the kids when they went to the ruins for vacation, putting all of Y/N's clothes in it. The two friends stared in shock and horror, holding each other's hand like they would lose them forever. Toriel looked over at the two with a sad glimmer in her eyes, knowing the bond these two shared. She let out a sigh, stooping down to be eye level with the children.

"My child, I know it will be a major change for us, and I know you both will miss each other tremendously, but we must leave for the ruins. That's the only place I may keep you and the other humans safe."

Y/n, despite her young age, knew that Toriel was right. Even though she would lose so many people she loved, she knew that they had to be the ones to save the other people who could fall. She turned to Sans, both wearing the same heartbroken expressions they held each other close once again, silent tears pouring down their cheeks as they realized that this would be their final time seeing each other for a long time.

"Y/n pulled away, wiping her eyes before giving Sans a small smile. "Hey, we won't be without each other forever! You live in Snowdin! That's very close to the Ruins, we just have to talk through the door!" Y/n said, trying to be optimistic.

Sans let out a soft laugh , wiping his own tears. "I guess you're right...It just won't really be the same ya know?" he replied, his shoulders slumping.

Y/n wrung her hands nervously as she watched her mother finish with the final bits of her belongings, before turning to her daughter with a small, albeit guilty smile, handing her daughter her cloak and putting on her own so they could leave unnoticed. After locking the gemmed clasp on the front, Y/n gave Sans one last hug before grabbing Toriel's hand, slinging her bag over her body. "Make sure you keep that promise Sansy," Y/n joked with a giggle. Sans sighed, giving her a small smile

"No matter where you are, I will always protect you," he whispered as the two ran out the door.

So, this is a bit of a sneak peek at the new story I've been working on! This is kinda the backstory, one I may incorporate into the main story as like a flashback or something.  The main story won't be posted for a little bit, since I'm still working on the first chapter.

Anyways, I have a discord server for anyone who likes my work, wants to chat, or maybe has questions about future updates. It's where I'll be posting little sneak peeks like this from now on, unless suggested.
