Ariel's P.O.V

Nathan taught me many things.  Even though I didn't understand him at times, I was still learning.  I was becoming more human every minute of everyday.  It was like my wolf self was escaping from me, and I hated it.  Sure I enjoyed Nathan's company, but the great longing for my pack was a hole in my chest that couldn't be covered up.

One night Nathan and I sat at the table after enjoying a great barbeque with Roger.  Roger had grown to be a good friend.

I looked out the window to the dark woods outside his house.  "Home?" I asked him.  He shook his head.  "If you went home, they'd hurt you." He replied.  A drop of water came from my eyes.  "No."

He gently took my hand in his looking at me warmly.  "Do you think they'd accept you?  A human?"  "Yes!" I said knocking my chair over as I bust out the door.

No one could tell me what to do.  I was an alpha, no one could keep me caged.  My hair flew in the wind.  The moon shone like ivory in the sky above me and I felt the chill of evening.  Soon, I would be back, howling to that moon like I should.

"Ariel!" Nathan called stepping outside the door.  I quickened my pace.  No, I wasn't Ariel.  I was a wolf.  Wait, wolves don't speak.  I tried not to think, just to run off instincts like I had done before I was captured.  Suddenly the image of ice skating with Nathan flooded my head.

Memories, Happy memories.  No!  I was a wolf!  I didn't have emotions or memories!  I stopped in my tracks as I heard a howl.  My pack!  I started running towards the howling.

I ran as fast as I could and for the first time in a while, I felt free.

At long last I came face to face with the leader of the pack, my father.  The all black large wolf stood in front of me magestically right next to my mother.

I couldn't help but to smile brightly.  I heard a low growl coming from them.  That didn't make sense, I was one of them.  Fear washed over me.

"Ariel!" I looked behind me to see Nathan.  I looked back at the alpha, he lunged.  He was suddenly knocked to the ground in midair by a large brown figure.  It was another wolf, a brown wolf.

I looked behind me again, Nathan wasn't there.  Was that him?  I gazed at the brown wolf wrestling with the black wolf.

The tumbled around in the mud and thrashed at each other.  The alpha caught the brown one in the arm.  I leaped in between them pulling them apart.  I had to gain some strength by living with wolves.

The brown wolf shifted form back to Nathan with a large gash in his arm.  I took him by the hand and we ran back to the house.

I grabbed a towel from the cabnet and ran it under cold water like I saw Nathan do for me when he rescued me.  I realized I said, "Rescued", instead of, "Captured" , and it was like a hit in the stomach.  Even more surprising was that I just saw the human I lived with for weeks turn into a creature I've lived with for my whole life.

I took the wet towel over to Nathan and lightly dabbed his arm.  I concentrated on clearing the blood.  He stared at me with an expressionless face.  "Are you wondering about what I am?" He asked.  "Yes." I said calmly.

"There is a wild wolf, they're just wolves.  But there are civilized wolves, the lycans.  They can turn into wolves, but they don't run off instincts." He explained.  I didn't understand at first, but then he explained so I could understand.  There was so much I didn't know, but I realized that there were many things I wanted to know.

I had decided to stick with Nathan.

I had bandaged up his arm with ease. That night while sleeping in bed, it didn't feel the same.

Nathan didn't put his arms around me, I was surprisingly lonely.  I put away all thoughts and just drifted to sleep.
