PART 18

Chapter 28

(Alexa)

A few minutes later we left Dylan's cabin, but we didn't go very far

away. We wanted to be there when he discovered what had been done to

his sheets. He would figure out the rest later.

Cameron and I began walking around the camp, sort of going in a wide

circle around Dylan's cabin. We made some small talk, but most of our

conversation was centered around our little prank.

Finally, Dylan and Nico returned from wherever they had been all

morning. We had decided not to punish Nico, partly because he really

was a nice kid, and partly because he was already paranoid about

Cameron trying to get back at him, and that was punishment enough.

Cameron informed me that he heard that Dylan, on the other hand, was

acting arrogant about the whole thing and saying that Cameron wouldn't

actually do anything. Man, was he wrong.

Dylan and Nico walked inside the cabin, and Cameron and I inched

closer so we could hear what was happening. At first all we could hear

was the two boys talking, then there was a surprised gasp followed by

a shout.

"Oh, yuck! What is all over my sheets?!?!" Dylan sounded like a

grossed-put little girl. "Is that...........pickle juice?!?!"

"I told you man!" Nico responded, nervousness evident in his tone. "I

told you he would get even! Now I have to go check my sheets..." His

voice trailed off as we heard him stripping the sheets off his bed.

Cameron and I had to cover our mouths to try and muffle our laughter.

I felt a twinge of guilt for what we had done, but I brushed it off

quickly. Dylan deserved it.

"Cameron is sooo going to pay for this." Dylan growled, while Cameron

scoffed.

"I'd like to see him try anything on me. I'll break the boy's

fingers!" Cameron grinned at me, and I nodded in agreement. Dylan had

better just give up now.

*******

But he didn't. And we should have expected that.

As all teenage boys do, Cameron got hungry. He was always hungry, but

this was worse than his usual cravings. So while he went to go find

some food in his cabin, I asked if I could stay outside. Fresh air was

better than the lived-in, stuffy smell of a cabin any day.

So that was how I came to find myself walking along the perimeter of

the camp. I had told Cameron where to find me, so I expected him to be

back any minute.

As expected, I soon heard footsteps behind me. Suddenly, strong arms

encircled me and a hand covered my eyes.
