PART 21

Chapter 31

(Alexa)

The next few weeks passed in somewhat of a blur. They consisted of me visiting the school and going to my classes, doing a little bit of Scout training with Cameron, watching movies with him every night, and my favorite- pulling pranks of on the other guys.

Cameron told me that they used to do that a lot, but they hadn’t had much time lately. So I suggested that we start doing it again, and Cam and I turned out to be master pranksters.

Hunter was usually our main target, since Cameron knew his daily schedule for the most part, and he knew what would irritate his friend the most. My favorite prank was when Cam and I took one of the guys’ Nerf guns, attached the trigger to the doorknob of Hunter’s cabin with a piece of string and an amateur pulley system.

We stood just outside of the cabin, and watched through the window as Hunter opened the door and was bombarded with foam bullets.

Hunter wasn’t mad, but he did get back at us by putting all of my clothes in Cameron’s closet, and putting Cameron’s clothes in my bags while we were at another cabin watching a movie. I can’t really explain the look on Cam’s face when he opened his closet door. It was priceless.

Time seemed to fly when I was with Cameron. It was crazy, I felt like he had just arrived here, but in reality, it was almost time for him to leave. We didn’t discuss it much, mostly because we didn’t want to ruin the fun we were having. But it was always at the back of my mind, and I’m sure it was the same for Cameron. Soon, he, Hunter, and the rest of the Scouts would pack up and take off.

Sure, we already knew that we could visit each other on weekends and holidays, but it wasn’t the same. We could also just take a break for a year, and see if we still feel the same way we do now. I wasn’t quite sure what we were going to do in the future, but I was definitely going to make the most of the present.

“Hey Cam,” I said as I strolled up next to him in the woods.

“Hey Lex,” he said with a smile. “What brings you here?”

“You. There’s really no other reason for me to be here.” Cameron chuckled lightly at my comeback.

“Good point,” he replied, “very good point.”

“So what do you want to do today?” It was late morning, and as far as I knew, we didn’t have anything planned for today.

“I don’t know. I guess today could just be a ‘kick back and do nothing’ day. We haven’t had one of those in a while.”

“That’s fine with me.” I took Cameron’s hand in mine and we swung our hands back and forth between us. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a thought popped into my head. I had no idea where it came from, but I couldn’t help but think that I had stumbled upon a great way to end our boredom. “Hey! You know what we should do?!?!”

“I’m afraid to ask- you’ve got that wild look in your eyes. But I’ll ask anyway. What should we do?”

I paused for dramatic effect and smiled menacingly. “We should start the territory war again. I know, it’s crazy, but we have nothing better to do besides pull pranks on Hunter. Plus, it will just be like a friendly game this time. No one has to get hurt or anything. Wow, that’s contradictory- a friendly war.”

“I thought we ended those! Who says you can start it up again, just like that?”

“I decided when it ended, and I can decide when it starts again.” I pulled my hand away and crossed my arms, giving Cam a stubborn look.
