PART 9
Chapter 19
(Alexa)
When I got back to the school, as expected, Mackenzie and Jordan were waiting for me.
"Where were you?" Jordan asked, sounding like what I guessed my father would sound like, were he still alive.
"With Cameron," I said simply, then added, "Nothing happened, though. I just fell asleep there."
"Yeah, right," Mackenzie said, though she didn't seem to be angry.
"I'm serious!" I replied, raising my voice. "I would never.......not with Cameron.........not now...........ew." That was my intelligent response.
"Whatever you say, Lex," Mackenzie said with a roll of her eyes. "That's not even why we wanted to talk to you. We need to run something by you."
"Shoot." I said, thankful for the subject change.
"Well," Mackenzie began, "Jesse stopped by last night, and we started talking. We're thinking about having a party. Maybe at the park or somewhere in the town. We're not sure about all the details right now, but we wanted to get your approval first."
"Okay," I said, contemplating the idea. "Who all is invited to this party?"
"As of right now," Jordan interjected, "everyone. School kids, city kids, and Scouts."
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" I was a little bit wary of the idea of all of us in one place.
"No," Mackenzie said simply, "but we figured that since we're all supposed to be getting along now, what better place to break the ice than a party?"
"I have to admit, there's a little bit of logic there. Do you even know of the Scouts will go for this?" Knowing Cameron, it didn't seem like something he would go for.
"We were hoping you could ask him.......?" Mackenzie looked at me sheepishly.
"Of course, since I'm his girlfriend I'm the 'obvious' choice."
"Well he definitely wouldn't listen to Jordan," Mackenzie reasoned, "and no offense, but he scares me."
I chuckled. "Whatever. I'll ask him- but don't expect me to try and force him to say yes."
***********
"Sure," Cameron said smiling, "a party would be great."
"Really? You're up for this?"
"Yeah, of course. My guys are bored to death- why not let them have a little fun?"
It had only been a few short hours since Jordan and Mackenzie had asked me to see if Cameron would be on board with the whole 'intermingling party' idea. We had decided to meet in the park, and we went to the swings, our usual spot. I had expected him to tell me how bad of an idea that was, so he surprised me when he said yes.
"Well then," I said, turning to Cameron, "I guess we've got a party to plan."
"Where do you think it should be?"
"I don't know. I was thinking it could be here, or maybe at the Rec. Center out in the city. It doesn't really matter to me."
"I think the Rec. Center is probably our best bet. We can get some kids to DJ, get a bunch of people to bring food and drinks, it'll be great."
"You know," I said thoughtfully, "I never took you for the party type. I took you for the 'stay at home and work out in the basement' type."
Cameron laughed softly. "Did you? Because I'm a BIG partier. Every weekend, sometimes even on week nights."
