A/N: Hello again! Here's the next chapter. Please note that I don't know anything about healing or any severe injuries, so I'm just making it all up. Make sure to comment and vote. And remember try not to leave any hate here. If you don't like it, read something else. Enjoy!
"I gotta say, hanging onto the yaks' stomach fur as a hiding place really is an impressive feat. I don't how you two hung on for three hours." I stated towards the twins, as me and the rest of the dragon riders flew through the winter skies of Berk.
The twins chuckled and rammed their helms into each others at the compliment.
Our group had been visiting Berk for Snoggletog and now that the holidays were over we would be heading back to Dragons Edge the next day. Everyone decided we should try to have as much fun as possible in our remaining hours at Berk. So, as per Chicken's request, we had decided to start a game of hide n' seek.
It lasted three hours with Astrid as the seeker. What can I say, we can get pretty competitive.
Steering Stormfly to glide next to Toothless and I, Astrid called out, "Hey, we should probably start heading back to the village. Wanna get there before the sun sets." She was right. On the horizon you could clearly make out the large, orange sun sinking into the ocean.
"Alright crew let's head back!" I shouted out. Then all together we turned around towards the direction of the town.
On dragon (not flying slow, like we were a mere few seconds ago) it only took a couple minutes to get close to Berk. Before any of the us could land though, we heard a low, deep rumble. It sounded as if it was coming from everywhere.
Even in the air, we could all somehow feel the power of the shaking island. Snotlout was shrieking in the most high pitched voice he could muster. Which to be honest, is way too high, considering his normal deep voice.
And the twins, to no one's surprise, were laughing and cheering on the earthquake. Fishlegs and Meatlug were rattling around like crazy in the sky, struggling to keep themselves up in the air.
Toothless let out an ear-shattering shriek, and shook his head back and forth violently. "Woah! Bud, it's ok. Calm down!" I started to scratch him under the chin, carefully avoiding the spot that could temporarily put him out of commission. He seemed to calm down at that gesture.
"Stormf-! No! Stop!" I turned my head back around just in time to see Astrid being bucked off Stormfly's back, as the dragon preceded to race towards the mountains. I didn't take any notice in her after that, as I was to fixated on getting Astrid out of the air.
It seemed impossible to catch up to Astrid's falling form though. As much as Toothless flapped his wings and dived, she seemed to be falling faster. Then we saw the trees. As we got closer to the ground, the fog seemed to part for us. And under the blanket of fog was the forest.
Me and Toothless tried to gain speed, but our attempts were fruitless. Astrid hit branch after branch while plummeting towards the ground.
We tried to get under the trees and catch her before she hit the dirt, but the foliage was too dense. The forests' were made up of mainly evergreens, meaning the trees always stayed full and green, even during the winter season.
We landed at the edge of the forest and dashed in. We raced to the spot I assumed Astrid would have fallen from. As we approached our destination we slowed. I strained my vision to see anything. Any sign of Astrid. I was about to start moving forward through the woods, when I heard a grunt.
I looked up and saw Astrid hanging from a branch. She was barley hanging on with her left arm.
"Astrid!" I called to her, concern and fear lacing my speech. "Toothless, bud, can you get get under Astrid and get ready to catch her." Toothless responded with a worried garble and positioned himself under the branch. "Astrid, can you let go? Toothless is ready to catch you on his back!"
