In a desolate village, far removed from the city, Nonaka Hajime sat at his desk in school, his gaze drifting tiredly over the whiteboard filled with math formulas. The bell signaling lunchtime finally rang, offering a brief respite from the monotony of his studies. As he made his way to the top floor of the school, Hajime found solace in the quietude and the vast expanse of the sky beyond."Yo, Hajime, knew I'd find you here. What's up, daydreaming about a girl?" Tozen's voice interrupted his reverie, prompting Hajime's irritation to flare. His brows furrowed in annoyance, and anger coursed through his veins.
"Damn it, Tozen, can't I have a moment of peace? I just got out of a math class, I need a break! And no, I'm not thinking about a girl! What kind of image of me do you have?" Hajime snapped at Tozen, his frustration evident.
Tozen quickly backpedaled, attempting to defuse the tension. "Hey, hey, calm down! I was just joking, okay? I've got some news you might find interesting," he said, hoping to placate his friend.
Hajime's fiery temper simmered down slightly as he demanded Tozen to elaborate. With flames dancing on his fist, he warned Tozen that if the news wasn't worth his time, there would be consequences.
"Well, would you be interested in exploring the mountain in the forest behind the village tonight?" Tozen suggested, pointing toward the distant peak. "I heard from a friend that they tried organizing a test of courage there over the summer, but they got spooked by strange sounds and mumbling voices before they could even start."
Before Hajime could respond, Tozen vanished, leaving him to contemplate the offer. Tozen's voice echoed from behind, urging him to listen further. Intrigued, Hajime relented, albeit with a threat of retribution if the venture proved fruitless.
Later that night, armed with a wooden sword borrowed from the school's sword club and a real katana "borrowed" from his grandfather's storage, Hajime joined Tozen on their excursion into the forest.
As they ventured deeper into the woods, Hajime's annoyance grew. The forest seemed devoid of life, and he grumbled at the thought of wasting his precious sleep on a pointless expedition.
Suddenly, Tozen halted, causing Hajime to bump into him. Before Hajime could protest, Tozen signaled for silence. A figure emerged from the darkness, accompanied by a walking corpse. Shocked, both teens realized they were facing an unsettling reality.
"Why is there a corpse in this forest? And how is it moving?" Hajime blurted out, unable to contain his astonishment.
The man in the black cloak stepped forward, introducing himself as Miyashita Kohaku, a medium-ranked member of the notorious Black Star Guild. His eerie smile sent shivers down their spines as he reveled in their fear.
With a chilling proclamation, Kohaku summoned more corpses to surround them, signaling the beginning of a sinister game. "Let the party begin," he declared, his voice dripping with malice.
And with that, Hajime and Tozen found themselves plunged into a nightmarish ordeal, facing a foe beyond their wildest imaginings.
