The morning sun cast its warm glow over Mahoh Academy as Hajime emerged from his dormitory, his steps measured as he navigated the sprawling campus. "This place is enormous...how am I supposed to avoid being late with this trek?" he mused wryly, his expression tinged with bemusement.
Ahead, a figure caught his eye, a girl moving gracefully through the morning bustle. " Tokyo, huh...where even the girls are breathtaking. Quite a change from my hometown," Hajime thought, a hint of admiration in his gaze.
After what felt like an eternity of walking, Hajime finally arrived at his destination—a nondescript building housing his classroom. "Finally...but seriously, the dorms are meant to be convenient? This feels anything but," he grumbled inwardly, his frustration evident.
"Yo, Nonaka Hajime!" a voice called out, interrupting his thoughts. With a resigned sigh, Hajime turned to face Ken, his classmate from the day before. "What now?" he muttered, his annoyance palpable.
Ken's expression softened as he spoke, his words carrying a hint of contrition. "Listen, about yesterday...I apologize. Principal wanted me to test your strength. Annoying, right? I mean, why doesn't she do it herself?" he explained, his tone tinged with exasperation.
"Test it herself? Wait, she's stronger than you?" Hajime asked, surprise evident in his voice. "Yeah, she's at the top of the Magic Association, the strongest mage in Japan. She could represent the country if needed," Ken confirmed, a hint of respect in his tone.
The mention of the Black Star Guild prompted Hajime to inquire further. "How do they even exist if she's around? Aren't they scared?" he wondered aloud, his curiosity piqued.
"Well, they're crafty. They must have a mastermind behind them, pulling the strings. We've only ever caught low-ranking members, and they're just puppets, following orders from voices they've never even met," Ken explained, his brow furrowed in thought.
Impressed by Ken's ability to deflect his attacks, Hajime shifted the conversation towards his classmate's own magic. "Your magic...it's unlike anything I've seen. My attacks couldn't reach you," he remarked, his interest evident.
Ken grinned, a glimmer of pride in his eyes. "That's Distortion, passed down through my family—the Satou Clan. It manipulates space around the user, though it's usually mana-intensive. But with my eyes—the Eyes of Infinity—and the mana reserves of the Satou Clan, I can control it easily, just like I have infinite mana exists inside me. And also, we've used Omniyodo to enhance our combat styles. Well, as you know, the Distortion only capable to let us manipulate the spaces, but it cause no harm in terms of battles." he explained.
"Intriguing...and what's Omniyodo?" Hajime inquired, eager to learn more about this unfamiliar concept.
"Omiyodo is another type of magic control, commonly known in Tokyo. It's optional, but mastering it can enhance your magics." Ken elaborated, his enthusiasm infectious.
As they reached their classroom, Ken paused, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Welcome to Class 1-A, where Toki reigns supreme. Prepare yourself—it's a haven for weirdos like me," he quipped before disappearing into the room.
Hajime chuckled to himself, a sense of camaraderie blooming between them. "Weirdos, huh? Reminds me of someone back home..." he thought, a fond smile tugging at his lips as he followed Ken into the classroom.
