My phone trembled in my hands, while my thumb hovered over the call button. My gaze averted to Joeys, encouraging nods. I took in a deep breath and finally pressed down on the cold screen. My leg was shaking, as it rang, once, twice, thre-

“Hey, Cora.”  Ash’s high voice rang through, and I swear she sounded relieved.

“Hi.” I said breathily, in a daze that she actually answered.

“Oh um, I was just wondering if maybe we could go out for lunch. A-and even if you wanted, Joey could come. You c-could become friends with him.” I said nervous.

“Yeah, that sounds really fun!” she said, and my muscles softened.

“Oh good, where would you want to go?”

“I heard there’s a new Tai restaurant. It sounds good, how ‘bout that?”

“Great! So maybe at 1:00?” I said hope filling my voice.

“Perfect, see you there!”

“Bye, Ash.”

“Bye, Cora.” And with that we hung up.

I turned towards Joey again, with big eyes. His grin was wide, and he opened his arms. I ran from my place on the big Totoro, and to Joey’s embrace.

“It went so good.” I said while, breathing in his scent.

“I know, I’m just so glad you made up.” He said with a honest tone.

“We have to get ready. It’s already 12:00!” I said, with excitement.

“Okay, I’ll meet you back here.” He said, holding me now at arm’s length.

“See you soon!” I said while pecking him on the lips.

“Bye, gurl!” he said then disappearing, through my front door.

I ran to my closet and tried to decide what to wear. My hands skimmed over the articles of clothing, before stopping on one. It was a cream dress with a thin black belt and it flared out at the bottom. It was perfect because I heard the restaurant was a bit fancy. I also paired it with our best friend rings we got each other, and a pink lip gloss. Once I did my hair in a French braid, I slipped on a pair of light pink flats. I was actually really happy with my look, and checked the time out on my phone.

“ITS 12:45!!!” I yelled while running to the door.

“Shhhiiittt!” I yelled, when I accidentally slammed my arm onto the table corner.

Joey suddenly opened the door, with the key I gave to him. I awkwardly looked up at him, my face heating up. One, because I was clutching my arm and two, I was having a cursing fit.

“I bumped my arm.” I said with a shrug.

“Come on.” He said with an eye roll and small laugh.

I quickly recuperated and followed him out the door. We mostly drove there in silence, but had the occasional small talk like; “So are you excited?” and “How are you?”. When we pulled up to the Tai place, the nerves were piling up. I slowly exited the car and took Joeys hand.

“It will be alright.” He said, while leading me up the steps, to the door.

*ASH’S P.O.V.*

I was waiting at a table for Cora and Joey to arrive. I was actually really excited, even though we had our little fight. I think we both knew it wouldn’t last long and we would quickly let down our barrier.

“Joey, what if she just doesn’t show up?!?” I heard someone say, it sounded like Cora.

“She wouldn’t do that. Now come on.” He said, reassuringly.

“Cora, come on! I wouldn’t leave you here.” I said with my arms spread out, while I stood next to the table.

“Ash, always making jokes.” Cora said with a smile.

“Just come here, babe!” I said, and we hugged, silently forgiving each other.

“I really missed you.” She said, once we pulled apart.

“I missed you too. But, come, come sit down.” I said, pulling out my chair and sitting.

They all sat down and we awkwardly looked at each other. Joey looked…happy? Maybe he was happy that we were friends again. I cleared my throat and said what was needed to for a long time now.

“Cora, I really am sorry. I guess I was just..I don’t know, jealous. I mean, you’re living what we always fantasized about. I was feeling left out and I really am sorry.” I said, with a small smile.

“I’m really sorry too. I shouldn’t of ignored you, even if Joey was now in my life. You know what; I should have done more things like this. Like meeting together, so we could all be friends, best friends even. Sorry, Ash.” She concluded and we both smiled widely at each other.

“Well, let’s order!” Joey said excitedly.

“Lets.” I confirmed.
