ao'nung's pov

i woke up in a pissy mood cause i was awoken not only once BUT TWICE. first time i woke up to my parents telling me and my siblings they'd be out for the day. i didn't really care so i went to back to sleep and then roxto came in busting through my pod. "wake up bitch" roxto joked while shaking me. "bro?" i replied half asleep. "get up. you me and sullys boys are going ilu surfing. i'll wait for you outside" he said while i got up, rubbing my eyes. i fucking loved ilu surfing so i got up only cause i wanted to go. it had been awhile and roxto wanted to the teach the sullys. when i stepped outside i swear the sun had never been so bright. maybe it was cause i just woke up but i thought i was blind for 2.5 seconds.

we met up with lo'ak and neteyam, while lo'ak and neteyam seemed to be arguing about something. "what are you two chis arguing about" roxto joked while neteyam laughed as we approached them. "lo'ak was just telling me about how he thinks your sister likes him" he exclaimed having his arms wrapped around his stomach from laughing so hard. lo'ak rolled his eyes at his brother and pushed him. "which sister" i asked jokingly. i already know lo'ak likes arielliaä but i asked to be sure but god for bid neteyam liked tsireya . "Arielliaä" neteyam said wrapping his arms around lo'aks neck. "No shot" i replied. "maybe in another lifetime bud" neteyam teased scratching the top of his hair while lo'ak shoved him off looking very angry about this whole situation. i could've told lo'ak that arielliaä actually does like him but why would i out my sister like that. i'll leave him thinking.

me and my siblings were told this morning to roll up all the tapestry's made out of  hay and a bunch of other stuff

me and my siblings were told this morning to roll up all the tapestry's made out of  hay and a bunch of other stuff. my parents explained to us that they might not be around today. me and my siblings were confused about that statement because my parents never left the village and if they did it would only go to outside the reef but that's it.. and also because my father is olo'eyktan of the metkayina and mother is tsahik. everyone knew that if you didn't see my parents atleast once during the day walking around in the village or walking through the mangroves something was wrong. ao'nung as usual didnt roll up any tapestry's. i saw tsirerya go to grab ao'nung's but i stopped her. "no, ao'nung can do this himself. or are you not capable of doing things by yourself?" i seethed shooting my eyes at ao'nung while he scoffed taking his unrolled tapestry and started actually doing it, must be my lucky day.

"get up" my father shouted looking at the 3 of us as he came in but quickly left the pod. i looked back at my siblings to see them having the same confused look as me. we got up and walked outside to see a swarm of the metkayina people. it looked like my parents were going to announce something. ao'nung moved everyone out the way so we could get to the front of the crowd. no one hesitated because of who we were the children of.

and anyway if they did they'd be in the wrong considering since me and my siblings are the future of the metkayina. my dad ingraved that in our brains at a real young age.

i looked over to notice the sullys arrive, looking confused as to what was going on.
"my spirit sister and her baby, have been murdered by the SKY PEOPLE" my mother announced while she silently wept after. my heart broke, Roa was the first tulkun i've ever laid eyes on. Her death stung a bit. i looked over at tsirerya and watched her as tears rolled down her face causing me to cry too. the people growled and shouted when they heard this. "This war has come to us" my father added causing all the men to hiss and yell. "We know about this hunting of the tulkun people. It must be put to an end" my father yelled while he slammed his staff on the floor sticking his tongue out doing the usual metkayina rile up. "you gotta understand how the sky people thjnk. They don't care about the great balance" jake spoke explaining to my parents. i agreed with jake. Jake is used to be from the sky people, he would know them better than anyone.

i looked over at lo'ak who was across from me in the swarm of people circling my parents. butterflies filled my stomach when i saw he was already looking at me. i quickly looked away before i could do anything that would make me stay up at night regretting something i did. "we act to the sky people!" villagers shouted responding to jake. "listen to him" neteyam added speaking to the crowd. i was always fond of neteyam, i was obviously closer to lo'ak when it came to the sully brothers but me and neteyam had a pretty good bond. i've always considered myself such a good observer, i've noticed how neteyam and lo'ak want to make his dad proud and from what i can tell jake is for sure hard on them but i could relate.
"the sky people are not gonna stop. this is only the beginning. you need tell your tulkun to leave. You gotta tell them to go far away" jake stated determined to get the people to understand. "Leave?" my mother questioned. "you live among us and you learn nothing" she yelled causing the crowd to start instigating.

"we will fight to protect our brothers and sisters"
a villager from the metkayina yelled while everyone shouted agreeing. "no no. if you attack, if you fight. then they will destroy you!. Destroy everything that you love." jake said loud and clear while neteyam was telling villagers to calm down. "here my words. dammit" he said in result of no one listening to him. no one even payed attention. they all were just yelling and shouting in anger, all the metkayina wanted to do was fight.

"listen to my father. he speaks the truth" neteyam yelled. i noticed jake go over to neteyam who was holding a small red harpoon pinger and grabbed it while running to the top of a small hill which was where my parents were standing. he lifted it up in the air showing the crowd while the crowd went silent. it was small but it looked like it could do some damage. you tell the tulkun, that if they get hit with one of these they're marked for death."

"call for me i'll silence it" jake demanded. "saving their lives that's all that matters right?" he said asking the people. i nodded while jake looked at me and gave me a small node a smile. "saving your family" he continued looking at my parents. i looked around and everyone seemed to finally have the realization it wasn't always about having offense all the time. my dad looked at my mother while she grabbed onto his hand. "tell the tulkun." my father announced. "go" my mother shouted while all the metkayina ran and dived into the water.

i looked to my left so see a determined forest boy walking fast heading straight to the docks. he was going to tell payakan wasn't he? i thought to myself. i was gonna go run to him but i saw neteyam in my peripheral heading towards him so i decided to just look for reya and ao'nung instead.
