Adaman dropped me off at the settlement to meet up with Mai before he took off to the Alabaster Icelands to find Irida. He was already shivering just thinking about having to go there, hopefully, he would find her quickly and be able to come home fast.
I walked up the main path of the settlement, and everyone was busy getting ready for the announcement. Some people were setting up a gigantic, long table in one of the bigger clearings, others were carrying food here and there in baskets, and some were even hanging some decorations. The smell of some delicious food filled the air and it made my stomach growl. I couldn't wait to sit and eat.
I make sure to say hello and wave to everyone I come across along the way. They all greet me with smiles and waves of their own and for the first time I thought about them as my people, my family. I felt so accepted here already, I knew I had made the right decision to marry Adaman.
As I reached the heart of the settlement, I found Mai directing a group of kids who were carrying chairs to the table. She huffed a sigh of relief when she saw me and beckoned me over with her hand.
"Thank Arceus you're here. Adaman said you would be here an hour ago and I was starting to think you had changed your mind or something." She spoke at the speed of light, clearly feeling the stress of having to rush this gathering. I blushed slightly, knowing exactly why Adaman and I were late.
"I'm sorry Mai, we got a little... caught up with something and it took longer than expected. But I'm here now and I'm ready for whatever." I tried to pacify her and just hoped she didn't ask any more questions about why exactly we were running behind.
"You're right, you are. Let's go, we have to get you dressed and ready. You're sure you want to do this right? After this, there's no going back. We're about to tell all the leaders in the region you're going to be married, are you sure you're ready for that?" She questioned, raising her eyebrows and staring hard into my eyes.
"Absolutely," I answered confidently, with a huge smile on my face. I've never been more ready for anything than I am to spend my life with that man. Mai relaxed and a smile crept onto her face as well. I knew she was happy for us and that she was our biggest supporter, if only for the selfish reason of not having to take care of him herself anymore.
"Perfect. Let's go get you dressed to impress then." She ushered me away from the clearing and over to her hut. She thankfully had her own and didn't share one, because it meant no one else would have to see me and we would be alone.
She opened the door to let me in and followed behind me. I froze in the doorway, looking at the beautiful kimono hanging up near her bed. It was blue silk and covered in tiny golden diamond shapes that sparkled in the light. The fabric looked so soft to the touch. The obi was a darker blue with gold accents and two crescent moons facing away from each other on the sides.
"Mai... please tell me this isn't what I'm supposed to wear tonight. It's too nice." I was practically speechless looking at the beautiful outfit in front of me. I wanted to reach out and touch it but I was afraid to ruin it.
"Of course it is, and you are going to look STUNNING. This is the same kimono his mother wore before her wedding as well, she saved it for this exact occasion. Adaman is going to be speechless for the first time in his life, I can't wait!" She clapped her hands together and began laughing to herself. She reached for the kimono and began separating the pieces to put them on me. I was nervous but I began to remove my clothes and let her take the lead.
When she was done dressing me, she began to do my hair in a quick updo to keep it out of my face. She stepped back to look at me, and the smile she had let me know she was pleased with her work. I looked down at myself and could barely recognize myself. It meant even more that his mother saved this and felt comfortable enough to hand it over to me now.
