Bittersweet /ˈbi-tər-ˌswēt/

1. Windows down, music loud, and blue skies as far as I can see. I still remember the warmth of your shoulder up against mine, making my stomach feel like it was full of bees - in the best possible way.

2. Thinking about you later that day, reciting all of the reasons I wanted to see you again and all of the reasons it was a bad idea. Terrified in equal parts to know if what I'd read in your eyes was true and to do anything about it.

3. Oh, I remember how those bees in my stomach started stinging when you asked to see me again. From thrill to dread in less than sixty seconds. And, panicked - I ran.

4. Now knowing in hindsight, that it was probably for the best, that the timing way too short and the distance too great. But also knowing that I still think about you sometimes - and it's been nearly half a decade. And knowing the promise I made to myself that, should I meet someone like you again, I won't hesitate.
