Sapnap and Karl lived happily together in the kingdom of Corinth until a war caused Sapnap to be banished. After 13 years, the two are reunited, and slowly realize that time has changed both them and the very nature of their friendship. They begin t...
I heard screaming coming from down the hall, the kings bedroom. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. The doors where closed, and when I went up to them to knock my mom suddenly burst out. She stormed past me, like I wasn't even there. The screaming was still coming from inside; I caught the door and shimmied in, letting the huge heavy door shut behind me.
Mori was hysterical, screaming and crying over her king as he lay dead on his bed; her screams sent chills through my whole body, and I felt numb. I called to her, but I was drowned out in her screams as she desperately tried to wake her king. I was in shock, and I started to cry for her. I started to her but my mom came up behind me and started pulling me out, "We have business to attend to, leave them". I was scared- I didn't want to leave, she needed me, and I needed her.
I screamed and fought against my mom, trying to get back to her, but it was no use. I watched helplessly as the doors shut and I was pulled farther away.
That was the last time I ever saw her.
But for some reason...I could still hear her scream. The echo getting louder and louder in my head, chilling and frightening as ever, full of urgency and desperation. I was electrified, and then...I was cold.

I woke up to the soft clopping of the hooves on dirt, I could feel the goosebumps on my arms. I opened my eyes, and it was dark outside, the only light came from the moon. How long was I out?
I felt something warm, and as I woke up more and realized I wasn't holding onto sapnap anymore...he was holding onto me. I was laying against him, he was holding my shoulder with one hand and the other had the reigns, and both my feet hung off the side of the horse as it walked along the dirt path. I was wrapped in a blanket, and I didn't know where we were.
"You ok?" sapnap looked down at me. He noticed I had woken up
"Where are we going?" I half yawned, sitting up
"Somewhere safe"
"Where?" I asked as he pulled the horse off the path into the brush. I leaned in through the low hanging branches pf the trees. The branches and brush soon gave way to reveal a large open clearing of flowery tall grass. The full moon beamed overhead and through the trees, bathing everything is a speckled purple/white light.

***so it's this, but dark time. Y'know, moonlight and dark and all. Also It's a little bigger than this
Sapnap P.O.V
I stopped us and hopped off, I held out a hand to karl, but he was completely zoned out. I laughed to myself.
"You like it? I saw it on my way in from the valley" I reached up and gently pulled him off, "I thought it was pretty"
"It's beautiful-are you kidding" he said, wrapping the blanket around him
Yeah, better than even I remember I though to myself as I looked around "Oh when you were asleep, I stopped by the bar and grabbed a blanket- I figured it was all we would need for the night"
"Oh yeah, good thinking" karl replied "ohhhh look"
I watched karl wander into the tall grass, picking a handful of flowers. I watched with a smile as I settled the horse, and when he came back, flowers in hand, we sat down together. The sound of crickets filled the still night air as we sat together. I watched as he worked, carefully organizing the flowers by length first like he always did. I scooted closer to him and rested my head on his shoulder a he started making the chain. As he worked, the pendant swung from his neck, glinting in the moonlight.
"Can I ask you something?" I picked my head off his shoulder. He hummed.
"If it's not your mom's, then who's is it?" I asked, pointing to the purple stone
"It belonged to my mori" he replied in a melancholy tone
"Who?"
"The old Queen of Corinth. She was the one that took care of me like a mom, even though I wasn't hers. She said she was my mori- my spirit mom. The king gave this to her, said it was a symbol of their love. She wore it everyday...when we found it I hadn't seen it in years, not since she..." he didn't finish the sentence. As he spoke, I played with the pendant I had made around my neck, realizing a theme.
"It's just my way to remember her, y'know? Keep her close to me"
"Yeah...I get that" more than you know
"Ah" he scoffed, I looked down to see he ran out of flowers.
"I'll be right back" he said, shoving the blanket off wandered out into the field. I watched him walk away, and I wondered if he knew what my pendant meant, like really. He was walking but suddenly he tripped, hitting the ground with a loud thud and another weird noise- sounded like an animal. In the act, he disturbed a patch of light bugs that now swarmed the air where he once stood.
I jumped up and ran to him as he got up, dusting himself off. As I got closer, I could hear him... laughing?
"Karl" I asked, laughing a little "Are you hurt?"
"I can't believe-I just fell, like *snicker* soOOO hard I freaking HONKED" he cackled
"Wait, the noise- that was you?" I asked surprised. He wheezed, nodding his head.
"Are you ok?" I stifled my laugh, smiling big
"Yeah I'm good I'm so good. Oh my honk" he said catching his breath. I looked around at all the fireflies. I had disturbed more from my sprint out, and now there were at least 100 fireflies lighting up the air around us.
"Woah" I said looking around
"They look like stars" he smiled. I could see the dots of light reflected in his eyes. He just had the prettiest eyes. He walked out to a dark patch of grass and kicked, causing more bugs to appear "There must be thousands of them in here". He turned and looked at me with mischief. I raised an eyebrow, and within a second he took off, his path lit up like magic as he sprinted as fast as he could. I watched him race out a little, until he stopped to look back at me.
I started after him, drawing up light like fire from the ground. It was exhilarating, and I started to laugh as I chased after him. We yelled and laughed out loud, knowing that no one was there to hear us, to tell us no: it felt so freeing. I went faster and faster, and when I was right behind him I tackled him. We rolled on each other, laughing the whole way until we finally stopped, lying flat on out backs breathless as we looked up at a firefly speckled sky. I looked to see him smiling back at me. I reached out my hand and took his, squeezing it tightly, and turned back up to the sky.
