*Knock. Knock. Knock. *

When Y/N awakens, her cheeks are still covered in tears. She was having dreams about her beloved Wilhelm Carlisle. If only she could never wake up from that dream, but duty calls. The door is opened by Y/N after turning the knob and revealing a redhead with a lopsided smile.

"I apologize for not coming to see you at the station; I was held up with an even more pressing matter with a student. May I come in?" She asks Y/N, then sees Marilyn's muddy boots and an arrangement of roses in her hands.

Marilyn notices the direction in which the brunette's eyes are drawn and realizes she hasn't yet introduced herself to Y/N. "Sorry, I am Marilyn Thornhill. I am Nevermore's dorm mom, I would shake your hand but it's occupied." Marilyn chuckles awkwardly, Y/N smiles and opens the door wider

Come in, Ms. Thornhill. Excuse my messy hair; I was a little jet lagged after traveling, and as soon as I laid down, I was already knocked out. I haven't even unpacked.

Marilyn enters, places the arrangement on Y/N's desk, and then faces her. "Principal Weems sent me here to give you a copy of your schedule, and to tour you around the campus—"

"I know my way around here, Ms. Thornhill, and I appreciate your kind gesture, but I'm sorry," the redhead begins, but Y/N interrupts.

"I understand, Y/N. And if you ever need my help, I'll be right around the conservatory tending to my plants" Marilyn replies, and heads off the door

"Welcome to Nevermore Academy, Y/N. I'll see you tomorrow for classes!" She beams and closes the door on her way out.

"She smells odd." Salem steps out from the shadows and purrs around Y/N's legs.

"She's a normie, as Weems would say it." Y/N picks up Salem and takes a step outside the veranda.

"How does it feel to be back in this place, Mistress?"

"Guilty—I don't meddle in things I have no business being involved in, but seeing as I left Jericho in the hands of that hypocritical mad man and didn't lend a hand to the person who considered me a friend made me question my morals. Would it do me good if I just helped her?" Y/n muses, a frown forming on her face. Salem hums in response as she casts a glance up at her mistress.

"This shade of blue is nauseating, Salem."

Y/N pauses while spinning around so that Salem can see her. This morning her door was delivered with her new, perfectly fitted uniform. She was keen on wearing the color blue, just not this shade; looking at it for even a minute longer will cause her to drop dead. However, she also reasoned to herself that it complemented her fair skin.

"Not at all, Mistress. It suits you"

Y/N giggles at Salem's compliment and looks at the clock. "It's almost time for Thornhill's class. She's first up according to this schedule," the brunette says as she ties her hair in a ponytail.

"Don't let anyone see you"

"As always, Mistress," Salem nodded as she shifted into a crow and flew out the veranda while Y/N locked the door. Her eyes landed on the headmistress as she was about to leave her chambers as she turned around to head to class.

"Ahh, Miss Fontaine, lovely to see you. I assume you're heading to Marilyn's class?"

"You assumed correctly, Principal Weems. You look beautiful as ever today!"

The two began walking together as Weems nodded at the compliment, a slight grimace forming on her face. "You look stressed; are you alright?" Y/N asked as Weems sighed heavily.
