Y/N's pov

My morning started like almost every other morning, with me feeling horrible and wanting to go back to sleep instead of getting up just to go look for some minimum-wage job for what just might barely cover the rent of this excuse of an apartment. It was cold and lonely, but at this point, I've been alone for years since I didn't fit in anywhere. I got out of bed and realised I was already late for work. I looked over at my alarm and realised the power went off in the middle of the night again, so with already being an hour late for work, I got out of bed and made my way towards the fridge to make some breakfast. I opined on my fridge door and replied that I had run out of milk, no milk, no coffee, and no cereal. Now I was going to go to work with an empty stomach, and just like any depressed adult who was having a bad morning, I tried to drink the pain away, and just like every time I tried to drink it away, it never worked. With nothing to eat or drink, I left my apartment to go to work. Once outside, I went over to the complex parking garage and realised my car had been vandalised by what were most likely teenagers.

Y/N: You have got to be fucking joking right now.

With a long, pissed-off sigh, I entered my car, only to realise that it wouldn't start.

Y/N: Oh, for fuck's sake.

Ever since I lost my grandfather, finding a job has only gotten harder and harder. The work we did together was so goddam easy that it made us so much cash, but he's been dead for years, and I've spent most of that money on a car, an apartment, and food, plus all the rent I have to pay in order to have a place to live. I've got almost no money left and a damaged car. I knew when I was defeated, so I walked back to my cold and damp apartment all alone. Entering my apartment after a stressful morning of trying to figure out who I am, I'm still no slower to figure that out. I walked back into his horrible single-space apartment. He simply felt defeated at this point; he had lost all hope for his life. Y/N's life was always confusing to him; he knew nothing of his past, family, or anything about himself, and at times he didn't even know who he was. His life has been a complete mess, and after everything he's been through, I can't say I blame him. Ever since my birth, his life has been a complete mess, and his story is about to unfold. Once he returned to his sh*t apartment, he began to wonder if his life was ever going to improve, and the answer he formed to that question was simply no, it was not, and life for him was not easy as of right now anyway. I was running rather low on money and may not be able to afford to pay rent this month.

Y/N: Fuck me, dude, at this rate I'm going to get evicted from this shithole.

I never understood my family's backstory, and every time I asked about it, I always got the same answer as the last: "Don't worry about it." Ever since my birth, my life has been a complete mess. I have always had to rely on one person and one person only, and I haven't seen him in years at this point in time. It's been years since his death, and I'm no better now than I was back then. and today it was not going to get any easier, that's for sure. He walked over to his couch and fell asleep. Not realising that taking that nap was about to reveal his true past, and with what little hope I had left, I was hoping tomorrow was going to be a better day than today. I'm broke, have no job, and am going to get kicked out of this dump, but I wasn't going to give up hope. It may be hanging on by a third, but I'm sure tomorrow is going to be a better day.

*Long time skip* Still Y/N's POV

I woke up with a massive headache and soon realised I was no longer in my living room but instead on some sort of red hilltop somewhere. I could hear gunshots in the distance, followed by the sound of people screaming in pain or fear.

Y/N: What is this place?

What made matters worse was the fact that everything around me was dim and red; there was also a pentagram in the sky in place of the moon or sun, which was a little off-putting, to say the least. Not knowing where the hell I am or what to do next, I thought maybe it was best to do a little bit of exploring. I might get killed in the process, but hey, from the looks of it, I got high in my apartment again, so maybe none of this is real. But then again, this all looks rather real, and unlike every other time I got high, this all looked real.

I've got to find some answers. I can't just sit here and wait to die, but I'm pretty sure I got high or drunk and passed out again.

I wandered around for what felt like at least an hour and came across a sign that read, "Welcome to Hell, Enjoy Your Stay." So I'm in hell then, why? I was a pretty good person, right? I never really did anything too bad other than smoke weed once. *sigh* Well, I might as well see if I can find some answers.

After walking around for what felt like ages, I could finally see something in the distance—a city of some sort. I walked forward some more and noticed a sign that said welcome to Imp City." Well, maybe I can find some answers here. I counted on walking around hell for what felt like hours on end, and I've found nothing and no one so far. It's like a complete ghost down right now, and for whatever reason hell seems kind of cold, I brushed it off and continued moving forward. I'm so confused right now; nothing seems to be making sense anymore. For starters, how did I even die? I was chilling in my living room, and all of a sudden I'm just in hell; it makes no goddamn sense. Why am I even here? I just don't get it. I pull out my phone only to notice it has only about 20% left. Now that's just fucking great. I felt around my pockets some more and realised I've got 20 bucks and a switchblade I keep on me for self-defence. While it may not have been much, it's better than nothing at least, and hell, that's more than I'd sometimes have in the living world.

Y/N: Well, things may be bad, but they could be worse. I guess I should figure out why I'm here.

I moved on some more and came across nothing; it's like the whole town shut down and everything. It's like COVID all over again. I have so many questions right now, none of which are going to be answered until I figure out what's going on. What kind of mess have I gotten myself into?

Y/N: Hello, anyone here?

But all I could hear was the sound of the wind blowing through the cold, crisp air, and there was still no one in sight at all.

*Time skip* Still Y/N's POV

I've been walking around hell for some time now, and everything was close no matter where I went. I couldn't make any sense of it. None of this shit made any sense to me. Everything was closed, and hell was rather cold for this time of year.

Y/N: What's going on here?

I soon came across something red. I looked down and realised it was blood.

Y/N: Well, I'm in hell after all; I can't be too surprised anyway.

I pressed on without paying attention to those corpses around me simply because I didn't care, and it was far from the first time I'd seen a corpse. At this point, it doesn't bother me; it stopped bothering me a long time ago.

Y/N: Hey, is anyone here?

There was no response after I said this. But I went over to the left and walked towards the source of the sound. It came from an alleyway.

Y/N: Someone there?

The sound started to get quiet.

Y/N: Hello.

The sound has now completely stopped. I walked into the alleyway and found the mangled corpse of a small demon. The poor little guy was still breathing.

Y/N: Yikes, that's rough, I guess.

I left his corpse there with the same rotting hell when you found it, and shortly after I found a vox in an alleyway. It may not have been much, but it'll do for now at least. I'm only fearful of what hell has in store for someone like me, but I guess only time will tell. I never understood why bad things happened to me, but I knew that I was in hell. I guess whatever it is I'm here for, I was going to get whatever was coming to me.
