Chapter XII
Rage and blood

Valeria kept her word, leading us to the last missile. It was night, we lost count of time, but it was, for sure, passed by 0100. The sky was relatively clear, the moonlight showing us the way back to Alejandro's base, even though it was raining gently.

It was only me, Ghost, Soap and Alejandro, as Rodolfo was ordered to deal with something else, at the base. I was the one driving, the Mexican man telling me the ways I should follow.

I stopped the car in front of the main gate of the Los Vaqueros' base. Shadows everywhere, Philip Graves standing in front of the gate, holding in his arms his riffle.

We just nodded at each other, everyone leaving the vehicle, purely confused by him being there, and by all the shadows acompaniating him.

"What's this?" The Colonel said, looking around at all the men.

"This is the immediate future. Step away from the gate." Graves said, looking up at the Mexican. His expression was simple, like he answered a basic questions such as 1+1.

"What?" I asked, walking next to Alejandro, crossing my arms at chest.

"You heard me, girlie."

"You're crazy, this is my base."

"It's not a base. This is a sizable covert facility and I admire it" he said, making a small pause, giving him enough time to reach his hand out to the gate "So, I'm taking it. You boys have been relieved. Thank you for your service."

"No, no, no, I don't take orders from you." Alejandro said, rising his voice slightly.

"Didn't Valeria say that? Now, that makes me wonder what else I don't know about your affiliation with a drug lord?"

"What the fuck did you just say to me, pendejo..." He groaned, taking a step forward to Graves, in a threatening manner. I pressed my lips and followed Alejandro, letting my hand on his chest, as a way of stoping him from approaching anymore.

"You're out of line, Graves." I said, looking up at the blonde man standing in front of us.

He gave me that smile.

That fucking ugly smile.

"Don't do that. Don't... do that. No one needs to get hurt here."

"Are you threatening us?" Ghost's thick accent filled the air. His voice sounded annoyed, pissed at Graves imbecility.

"Soldier, I don't make threats. I make guarantees. So, let's not do this." he said, giving us a casual shrug, adding to his smile.

"Soap...call Shepherd!" I yelled, still holding my hand on Alejandro.

Soap nodded, walking away slowly, pulling out his phone.

"General Shepherd sends his regards." Graves said, irony ringing into his voice. His words made Soap freeze in place, turning his head to face him.

"He told me y'all wouldn't take this well."

"He knows about it?!" Soap shouted, clenching his fists tightly.
