"How many robots roam out there?" I asked myself as I watched Lilac and Carol take care of a platoon sized element of odd looking robots. Unlike those two, my body can't the same damage or deal it. The most I can do is watch them work.

"I don't know, but there seems to be more attacks now." Lilac said as she landed near me. I need a weapon, but that could be a coin flip if I get one or not. I don't have much experience with fire arms other than the couple weeks training with the M4A1.

"I'm sorry I can't do much." Carol walked back after finishing off the last enemy.

"You could at least try." Carol commented before I lifted my hand. It was bandaged with blood on the knuckles. "Oh... Right."

"It's been a month since I sent my appeal to the court for a firearm. I have to appear sometime in the next hour." Getting a gun could change everything since I could finally help out.

"With the rise of attacks, they'd probably approve it." Lilac said. I would admit that it would grant me a better chance for the appeal to be approved.

"Probably, but they could be conceded and go, "You know what? Fuck you in particular," like what they tried to do when I first submitted it." The amount of hoops I had to jump through to get the appeal was absurd. It felt like talking to a Marine about anything other than eating crayons... Or talking to an Army soldier from the army about aircraft carriers.

"Yeah... Anyway, good luck with that." Carol said as she and Lilac walked away, leaving me confused.

"Wha... What the hell, no company?" I asked the retreating wildcat and dragon.

"That sounds like a whole lot of; not my problem." Still hasn't changed. Carol is still mad about the misunderstanding.

"... Fair. I'll see y'all later, I guess." I started walking in the opposite direction. I needed to get to the Royal Palace in Shang Tu for my appeal. Not going to lie, I was nervous about facing this on my own. I was supposed to do something like this when I was supposed to make the rank of Corporal in the Army.

How the mighty have fallen I guess. From Army upstart to a common sell sword. A useless one at that. The fact that I couldn't help with the robots only proves my weakness. On the bright side, plenty of law enforcement officers can vouch for my knowledge. I usually get hired to help them with any violent hostile.

The Army teaches you a lot and that knowledge has allowed me to become a trusted honorary officer. With basic weapon training and the bare minimum of combatives, I have managed to take down several violent suspects.

Oddly enough, they started to hire me after I got caught up in a hostage situation. They kept me in mind after I apprehended one of them and crippled the other. Since then, my military training has helped me with a beach and clear situation, several hostage liberations, and a single assault from a rebellion for some 'Grand Cover'. The rebellion wasn't too big, being the size of a company element, but they harmed anyone that spoke out against them. I don't tolerate that shit.

Most of these incidents had me intentionally wiped from the records; per my request. Letting the public know that a mercenary was critical to the success of the law enforcement during these tragedies would have caused a lack of faith in the public. Besides, I'd rather be left alone and unsung to stay below the radar. I don't like attention. Not even Lilac and Carol know about my involvement.

As for other things in life, Lilac and I have been sharing interest in movies and games. I still have Wi-Fi and Cell Service, but can't make calls. The most I was able to do was inform my battle buddies that there was no way I could make it back anytime soon and calling the Drills was something I also couldn't do.
