Weeks passed and exam season arrived, and we were all swamped with work.
"Good morning Alex" my teacher greeted as I stumbled into the room with a yawn.
"mornin'" I replied, taking my seat and rubbing my eyes. I was bloody tired.
I stayed up late last night studying, the local radio station playing in the background just in case. I knew Peter patrolled almost every night and it kept me up knowing he was at risk all the time, but I reminded myself he was much stronger than I knew. And he had been doing it a long time before I had come around. I just hoped he was keeping himself safe.
Art class dragged; we had a big assignment due about 'sense of place'. It was due next week, and I hadn't even started anything yet. Along with art, I had math, science and English tests coming up and I was dreading it. I was actually terrible at math and science; lord only knows how I got into this school in the first place. It was gonna take some long days to pull this shit off.
Spit in my face, my love, it won't phase me. Spit in my face, my love, it won't change me. Spit in my face, my love, I've gone crazy. Spit in my face, my love, I've gone mad.
My eyes skimmed across the words on the textbook again and I typed my notes into my computer so I could print out some flashcards later. I had taken refuge in the library for the afternoon along with most of the other students, my phone on silent so it couldn't distract me.
"what's this then?" my laptop was stolen from beneath me and I shot up after it.
"hey!" I glared at Flash who was doing stuff to my computer "give my shit back Flash"
"Hang on I'm just looking through your notes" he muttered, and I was pushed back into my seat by his goonies, struggling against them. "ooo anything interesting about Parker in here?"
"back off" blood rushed in my ears and my teeth grinded together. This kid seriously grinded my gears.
My headphones were stolen from me too and I was about to lose my cool with these lot.
"oh, what's this? An unusual tale" he squinted at the screen and my stomach dropped, please don't start reading that. "The beginning is never as sad as the end. That's the one thing you can rely on in life. No matter how it starts, it's never as sad as when it finishes-"
I twisted one of the lads' arms away from me making him cry out and bypassed the other before snatching my laptop back with steam coming out of my ears.
"I told you to back off" I seethed, and he smirked, crossing his arms.
"nice thing you got going on there"
"just piss off, we've all got to study, and I can't be assed to deal with your shit today" I watched him with my laptop held close to my chest, trying to chill out. I didn't want to get suspended.
"oh, come on Greene" he grabbed my face, and I reeled back, shoving him away and he cackled, stumbling, "I'm sure you're dying for someone to treat you like they do in your books. Some magical princes to whisk you away"
They all laughed at me, and my face matched the books I was revising from, clutching my computer close to my chest.
I shoved everything into my bag quickly and Flash grabbed my arm as I tried to barge past him. His grip was tight, and I warned him once more before I stomped on his foot, getting him to release me and I made my escape, him shouting after me.
Fuck him. Fuck him. FUCK HIM.
I could feel the adrenalin coursing through me whilst I stormed down the halls, dodging through the crowds.
