"I can't believe your parents are giving me the silent treatment right now. How can they not want to defend Archeon? Their home."

Evangeline is seated facing Kaida, propped up on her sprawling vanity desk, her back to the mirror.

She is watching Kaida get her French curl braids perfectly cut to give a layered effect.

"With all due respect, our home is now Dreichtown, remember?"

Evangeline's usual sarcasm rolls off her tongue and anyone else would have mistaken it as spiteful.

But Kaida came to understand, that was just Evangeline.

Kaida rolls her eyes as the last snip is delivered to her fresh braids.

Lord Kensuke and Lady Lena were evidently still bitter about being relocated, but due to their habitation in Dreichtown, it had become the indisputable best industrial town out of all the Kingdoms.

They should have been proud, they had stamped a whole town through with Samos superiority.

It was worth their scorn, Kaida decided.

Cool mousse is smoothed over the top of her head and her hairdresser applies heat, letting it set the hair in place, before leaving Kaida and Evangeline.

"I can try and talk to them. I assume that's why you're complaining to me. However, bold of you to assume they will listen. Ever since I left things down to Ichiro, it has been...frosty."

Evangeline's parents were obvious about their displeasure.

Not only had Evangeline failed to secure the Queenship, she eloped with a Haven. A Haven girl.

Kaida bites her lip as she takes in her appearance, inspecting her new hair.

Evangeline tilts her head. It was stunning, the spirals complimenting Kaida's skin, which was just taking on its summer glow.

"Now I see why you turned out the way you did. Your stubbornness and proudness seem to be genetic."

Kaida remarks, giving Evangeline an obvious side eye and it draws an uncommon laugh from Evangeline.

"Hey!"

Evangeline protests, resisting the urge to smack the Queen but Kaida wasn't even wrong.

"I'm guessing you don't stay with them in Dreichtown?"

"Oh hell no. I stay at the Haven Manor most of the time. It is incredible. They've used House Haven tech which involves some sort of reflective glass polymer. Their mansion is invisible. And so secluded. I love it there."

Kaida listens and is slightly warmed by the earnest tone Evangeline takes.

She used to be so cutthroat. So set on her path. But she was only a product of her environment.

The cogs in Kaida's mind begin turning.

"Can I ask a favour? Do you mind if I follow you there? I need a private place to prepare...to train and to focus."

Evangeline tips her head forward, her loose moonlight hair moving like silk.

"Kaida, you are Queen. You don't have to ask for anything anymore. The Havens would be thrilled to have you."
