Ayala smoothly hops on the back of her brown bear and she leads House Viper.
Eden is by her side with House Welle behind her.
Together they are a blend of emerald green, sage and gold.
They head towards the outskirts of the city, just beyond the Manor Houses where the Silvers used to dwell.
Where the roads conjoin into one and where the forest meets its end.
Kaida and Cal go to the highest point of the Palace. They look through binoculars.
They can see the undead, they appear like ants in a colony.
They stop their marching in unison, and they break out into sprints.
They claw and gnash, working themselves into a frenzy.
Kaida scrunches her nose, maybe it was just in her head but she could almost smell the acrid stench they brang. The smell of death.
They hit the Viper and Welle troops and Ayala rips through the frontline on the back of her bear, she withdraws her sword and takes out the first row in one swing.
Then she hops off it's back, landing in a crouch, like a panther about to strike.
The bear runs wild, it picks up one corpse and rips it in half.
It claws at a skeletal being and its head comes clean off.
The bear is having fun, enjoying taking care of the stragglers.
Eden opens up a sinkhole in the soft earth, and the soil churns as it swallows several of the corpses.
Another Welle soldier controls the branches of the trees, creating stakes that impale the undead.
The branches begin to knit together, whole trees almost being uprooted to create a formidable wooden gate, harsh and crooked and sharp and so high, Kaida can spot it from the Palace.
It would hold for a bit.
They fight until they are weak, but they keep going. Eventually the undead army thins out, no new corpses running at them.
"We've taken care of the first hoard. Seems like Adrien is taking a staggered approach. Not all at once."
Eden speaks into her comms, wiping her brow as she does so.
Kaida and Cal look at each other. It was just as they expected.
"Okay, Viper, Welle. Fall back. Get Samos out front. Phase 2 starts now."
Kaida puts down her binoculars.
House Samos are just heading out of the Palace gates, led by Ichiro and Evangeline.
The sun catches them just right and they gleam.
House Samos are right behind where Welle and Viper had been. Acting as the second line of defence.
It becomes a waiting game...
BOOM!
The sound of a single canon going off reverberates, carrying over all the way to the Police.
BOOM!
Another goes off in quick succession.
And it keeps on firing, heavy shots one after the other.
Kaida raises her binoculars. Adrien's men were blowing massive holes in the blockade, the second hoard was coming through.
"Queen to the frontline."
