007. prepare for battle
The tribute parade had gone down quite well, and it's safe to say that Emerald's face is sore from all the smiling she had to do last night. The people of the Capitol went wild for all their former victors, clapping and screeching in excitement. Her arm is also feeling a little numb this morning, the constant waving causing some problems for her, but hopefully it was worth it and results in some sponsors.Today is all about readying herself for the battle to come, for the fights that she will have to take in order to survive — even if it's just for a little while. Training, today is the beginning of the few days of training they have. It's all about trying out new weapons and learning survival skills. Even though her original games only happened two years prior, Emerald is a little rusty in regards to all of that. She'll have to make sure that she prepares well, otherwise going down there is pointless.
A few of the tributes probably won't even go, either because they don't feel they need to or simply because they don't want to. Whilst it's tempting to hide away in her bedroom, she knows that is stupid. She needs all the help she can get, and today would be the best time to make sure that happens.
Thankfully, Silas seems to share the same mindset as she does. He had been up even earlier than her this morning, shoveling down his breakfast and readying himself to go. He almost seemed eager, probably bored of life on this floor.
"Remember, allies. The two of you need to find some allies," Phoenix reminds them as they walk over to the elevator. All he receives in response are somewhat hesitant nods, mostly from the brunette girl who isn't looking forward to conversing with the others all that much. "It's vital if either of you are going to survive this,"
"And who do you suggest?" Silas deadpans, giving his mentor raised eyebrows. The man doesn't speak for a moment which prompts further questioning from the nineteen year old. "Well?"
"Have you managed to actually talk to anybody else? You could build on those relationships,"
"I mean, I spoke with Peeta yesterday. He seemed nice enough," Emerald interjects quietly, gaining the attention of the two men with her. She's not entirely sure whether she's done something wrong or not, their facial expressions not giving off any sort of suggestion. "Is something wrong?"
"No, sweetheart. Peeta Mellark would be a fine ally," Phoenix replies with an encouraging smile. "In fact, he'd be one of the better ones. He and Katniss Everdeen alike,"
"I don't think Katniss is much of a talker," Silas adds.
"Great! You two will get on well then. Off you go,"
Phoenix dismisses the tributes, allowing the two of them to finally head down to the training centre. Silas is back to his brooding self, not a hint of any emotion but anger, and Emerald isn't sure what to think of it. Last night he'd shown friendliness towards her, even going as far as to comfortingly grasp her hand as she began to panic in front of everybody. It was so much like how Francisco had treated her, caring and kind.
