I hate him.
He's the most typical kind of vampire.
You know, athletic. Intelligent. Hot. And all of these are accompanied by his huge ego. He knows what and who he is.
Desmond Holloway.
He's the most egotistical, rich vampire that could ever exist.
His mother is the wealthiest vampire in the magical world. She owns dozens of blood banks that are safe and unknowing to the dullies. She helped build the university blueprints with her childhood friend Estwood Gates. She is a legend in the magical world and again, rich.
"How were we supposed to know that Maximus offered that we work together in this speech thing?!" Margaux screamed.
I could feel my stardidas burning the pavement with every step.
Oh, I forgot to mention since witches and wizards existed, most of their emotions were visible. Whether it be shown in the eye color changing, or magic bursting from all of your fingertips and toe tips. Emotions are very hard to control, it's what they teach you about in middle school and high school. But if one's emotions are too strong, the magic follows suit. But the strong magicals when they get over emotional, their eyes turn black... But the emotional stages range from,
Mad = magic from your inner mana extending and shooting to your finger and toe tips.
Pissed = The eyes turning pink, orange, or red.
and,
Infuriating = This is where magic just overtakes your body's natural balance between its mana and energy. Which can turn your eyes all black if you're still conscious or what most people get is their body gets engulfed in their magic for a total of 10-30 minutes. Which is painful, but that's if you don't black out from the immense pressure. Now this is a tad different for every magical. This is just for wizards and witches. Let's say that a vampire is annoyed or mad, they will first start with their eyes turning a piercing red. When a vampire gets pissed, they can no longer control their fangs. Now if a vampire is infuriated, their pupils are the same burning red but a black darkness surrounds it.
"Calm down girl! You're burning your new stardidas." Margaux sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose.
"I wonder how Maximus will do during his part?" Julia questioned.
"I doubt he wrote the title." Marg's scoffed.
Julia's long locks shook as she continued to lead us to our dorm rooms which were conveniently right next to each other's. Me and Julia shared a room while Margaux shared her room with her younger sister, Dakota.
"Alright, I'm gonna talk to Mrs. Fois first thing tomorrow morning about this and see if we even have a choice in this." Margaux waved goodnight before her curls bounced behind the door.
Julia opened our door slowly to her side, "I still think Maximus helped a little. I don't think he'd let Desmond push him to the side like that."
I blew a huff of air and smiled, "Honestly, he seems like a fine guy, but I'm surprised your parents don't stalk you and set you up with a boy of their liking."
"That's because I want a man." She smiled and took a brush through her straight hair and then tied her hair back. "I mean, they always go for other shapeshifters because our bloodline is uncontaminated. But other men are just so much yummier."
"I feel like you mean defying your parents is yummier." Moving my books off of my bed and transferring them to my vanity. I'm too lazy to look for desks that might fit in this dorm room with us. Besides, if I had a vanity and a desk, so would Julia, I love the decor, I do, but Julia goes above and beyond in her decor. Not that it's wrong, I'm just not a fan. I would like a lovely violet or pink and black room with some candles and dried flowers across the walls. But Julia showed up weeks before I did to decorate her side of the dorm which is now the entire dorm. But for it being close to spring and her chances of finding a man to go to the Magicals Ball with becoming close to none, the room isn't decked out in her personality.
"Speaking of men, El. Who do you think you'll go with to the Magicals Ball?"
Crap. Of course, she could probably read minds. But if she could, then I'd be in more trouble for reading smut in bed while she watches romcoms on her illucon. (Our version of iPhones that accesses the internet via conjuring an illusion.)
"I don't know. I've only had one ask me and he's changed his mind to go with Sabrina the Siren." I sat down on my vanity chair and held my head to the side. "Although I am fairly certain that Sabrina has liked him for a few months now, and she just learned a new lullaby, so."
Julia nodded and put makeup remover on a hand towel to rub her emerald eyes off the new and improved shape-shifting mascara, it's a good balance of dryness and wetness that extends on the eyelashes while shifting. I do applaud whoever invented it though, it is a catch.
"Sabrina has always been such a quiet girl, I guess that lullaby gave her some courage." The brown locks in front of me disappeared and a face that was full of mascara remnants and green eyes pierced me. "Why hasn't Desmond asked anybody yet? We only have a month before the Ball. He is just in his own world. He would be lucky to have you pick the golden flower with him."
Oh, more magical news is that during the Magicals Ball, every couple goes into a maze together and uses their magic to help locate a golden flower. There is only one golden flower each year that is caused by Merlin's lasting spells to aid others. But then there are fuchsia flowers, those only grant one new magic for each magical. The flowers mimic the power of Merlin's flower but do way less than Merlin's. They are put out by the staff to help encourage magicals to get stronger. But the golden flower represents such an overwhelming emotional power that everyone feels its presence in the maze, it's like a constant echo from every direction. It's a very hard quest to complete. Those who gather a golden flower can amplify their magic by four times more and can learn new magic faster and stronger than others. But only once did a golden flower grant someone with strong magic, and that was Estwood Gates. He was granted the magic because he withheld very strong, emotional magic.
"But then again, I think you are way more powerful than what he gives you credit for."
"He thinks I'm a rabbit compared to his giant vampire mind."
"You know what I think!" She lit up after finishing her moisturizer. "I think we should write a new story and switch the stories before he has to read the speech in front of the important dullies."
"I would love to see the annoyance on his face, but what if we get in trouble, or suspended before the finals this semester? I can't risk it and go home. All the community colleges teach is safety and awareness of magic around dullies. I love learning actual magic here."
"True, but this is a group project, not just a one-man team. Desmond is a stuck-up vampire because of what he's able to conquer."
"NO, he's a stuck-up vampire because his mom is rich... and was raised with an ego of 1000 gods."
Julia followed along while changing into a baggy shirt and shorts that read M.P.U. "But still, we need to do something because you can get recognized for helping him speak to the humans. He shouldn't get all the credit for talking and writing."
I can already see his smug face when he answers the first question of the humans. He'd probably end his sentences with, "I know that because I made the research material myself."
"Just try to not let him push you around because of your freshman-year rivalry. Or if you want me to come up with a few paragraphs I definitely can. I know Margaux would love to help."
Most huge exams we have are graded by physical, emotional, and mental categories. Desmond holds the records for each exam, every year. At the beginning of Freshman year, I finished a test two points above him in the emotional range and one point above his mental test during his freshman year. Since I beat his top records in the school categories he's been overly nice during emotional and mental classes. But in physical classes, he's been going out of his way to team up with and crush me, for what I am assuming is his weird love for my discomfort and the fact that I can't beat his physical scores.
I rubbed my eyes and nodded, "I know it couldn't hurt to try. I just don't want to. Especially with him."
