Telling Brian

A/N - This was inspired by a comment about Brian and I thought "Elise should tell Brian what happened to Amy and Rory." I know there was a deleted scene where Amy and Rory's son (I think his name is Anthony) brings Brian a letter from Rory explaining what happened, but I wanted it to be Elise.

Elise took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

Brian Williams answered. He stared at her for a while. For a second, Brian thought he was staring at Amy. "Can I help you?" he asked.

"Brian?" the woman asked him.

"Yes?"

"It's me Elise."

"Elise? Elise who?"

Elise sighed, deciding to try another approach. "One time, you, Amy, and Rory went on an adventure with the Doctor. You rode a Triceratops with Rory and the Doctor. And a girl named Elise. She had brown hair and blue eyes."

"How...how do you know that?"

"Because that was me."

Brian scoffed.

"Please. Can I come in?" Elise asked.

Brian let her inside and they sat down at the kitchen table where Elise told him everything about Timelords. How they regenerate to avoid death. Having two hearts.

"How are you sitting in front of me?" Brian asked, "Where are Amy, Rory, and the Doctor?"

Elise didn't want to be the one who broke Brian's heart, but she also didn't want him to be sitting at home waiting for Amy and Rory to come home. "I'm sorry, Brian. But Amy and Rory aren't coming back."

Brian laughed. "Of course they are."

Elise reached over and covered Brian's hand with her own. "I'm so sorry, Brian. But...they've been dead for years. Decades."

"What...what do you mean by that?"

Elise explained what happened in Manhattan from start to finish. "The Angels took Rory back the 1940's and Amy couldn't live without him. So she let the Angels take her too. They were together in death just like they were in life. My father and I couldn't go back for them without ripping a hole in time and space. But they had a son. Well adopted a son. A son they named Eli. After me."

Brian wiped the tears from his eyes. "Thank you. For coming and telling me."

"I couldn't just let you sit here and wonder what happened. I would want to know what happened to my loved ones. Has River come to visit you yet?"

Brian's eyebrows furrowed. "River?"

"I'm...gonna guess that's a no." Elise launched into the tale of how she came to see River as a mother figure and who River really was.

"So Amy and Rory's friend Melody was their daughter the whole time? And when she...regenerated, she started calling herself River Song?"

"Yes, she was taken the Kovarian Chapter of the Silence and trained to kill the Doctor so he would never reach Trenzalore."

Brian's head was swimming.

Elise chuckled. "I know. Timelines are weird. I don't even understand what's happening half of the time." Elise heard the TARDIS materializing nearby. "Oh, that's my ride."

Before Elise left Brian, she turned to him and said, "Amy is why this body has red hair, why this body has a Scottish accent. Because your daughter-in-law made such an impact on me. Every time I look in the mirror, I see Amy. I chose her name as my middle name to honor her. I wouldn't be who I am today without Amy."

Brian smiled through his tears. "Will...will you come back?"

Elise smiled. "Of course. I'll always come back Brian."

"I'd like to get to know my...my great granddaughter better."

"I might not always have the same face. Things happen."

Brian got up from the table and came back with a necklace. "This was Rory's mother's. I think he was planning on give it to Amy, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you had it. I'll know it's you because I'll see the necklace."

Elise took it from him and slipped over her head, before hugging him. "Thank you, Brian." She stepped outside and saw the TARDIS on the corner.

"Is he going to come out?" Brian asked.

Elise looked at the blue box, knowing the Doctor was just right inside the door, standing at the console. Listening to the conversation, but not watching. He had learned to give Elise more privacy now.

"This Doctor...he doesn't like looking back," Elise told him.

So Elise was watching over the companions left behind for him instead.
