A/N - Takes place during "Power of Three." So it's the First Elise still. Requested by HannahTeeson.
Amy opened the door and nearly passed out in relief. "River! Thank god! Maybe you can get her to talk!"
River followed Amy into the house as she explained that Doctor had been gone for six months. "And he left Elise?" River asked.
Amy shook her head. "She said she wanted to stay. But none of us expected him to be gone this long."
"Where is she?"
"In her room, of course. She never leaves it."
"Oh mum, she's just being a teenager. I'm sure you remember those days."
Amy directed River to Elise's door, which was covered in a painting of a galaxy.
River knocked. "Elise? It's River. Can I come in?" The door was unlocked and River stepped into her daughter's room.
Elise was sitting on the floor in front of her bed with her hood up and her sketchbook in her lap.
River looked around and saw art supplies scattered everywhere.
On her walls were murals of what River assumed was Gallifrey. Blood red grass and an orange sky.
An unfinished watercolor of the Doctor against the wall. But this Doctor wasn't wearing a bow tie. He wore a brown suit and a tan overcoat. River recognized him as the Doctor's tenth incarnation.
She'd met him a few times, but Elise wasn't with him. River guessed that Elise was painting him from memory. "Elise?" River asked, but Elise didn't answer.
River sat down next to her daughter. "You want to tell me what's wrong?" River asked.
"River?" Elise asked.
River pulled Elise's hood back and noticed the dark circles under her eyes. "Have you not been sleeping?"
Timelord's still needed a few hours here and there, but it looked like Elise hadn't slept for at least a week.
"I can't. What if he comes back? I don't want him to leave me behind."
"He would want you to take care of yourself. Have you at least been eating?"
Elise nodded. "Amy and Rory leave food on my bedside table."
"Come here," River said.
Elise laid down with her head in River's lap. River started humming a song and soon Elise fell asleep.
When Elise woke up, she was in her bed. She shot up and ran downstairs.
"Good morning, little star," River said, standing in the kitchen with Amy and Rory.
"You're real," Elise breathed. She attacked River with a hug. "I thought I dreamt you."
River looked at Amy and Rory.
Elise sat down at the bar and River handed her a plate. Elise was quiet as she ate until she asked, "Mum, have you seen dad?"
River sighed. "Yes, but you were so little."
"Oh..."
Elise was worrying her.
"How about you and I take a trip? Just us two," River suggested.
"We can't leave."
River smirked. "Elise, you know I'm much better driver than your father. I can have you back in a second. C'mon. It'll be good for you."
"No! I can't leave. What if he comes back? I have to be here."
"Ellie, it's okay."
"No, you don't understand River! None of you understand!" Elise turned and ran from the kitchen.
A minute, they heard a door slam.
River sighed. "Well I tried."
"I know you did, Melody," Amy said, "I appreciate it."
"Elise has always been dependent on the Doctor, but this is taking it to the extreme."
"This is what happens when a 1200 year old child raises a child," Rory commented.
"She won't always be like this," River told them. River's computer beeped. "Gotta run, mum, dad. Adventure awaits."
"Say goodbye to Elise, at least," Amy said.
Elise stared blankly at the wall.
River sighed and kissed her forehead. River turned to leave when she heard, "River?"
"Yes, sweetie?"
"If you see my father soon, can you tell him something?"
"Yes of course, little star. Anything."
"I need you."
River said goodbye to Amy and Rory and left. She pulled out her phone and dialed the TARDIS' number.
The Doctor of course didn't answer.
She instead left a message and it was only four words.
"Your daughter needs you."
