There was nothing like driving fast down back roads on a bike. The wind hit you hard, but it felt more like you were flying than falling. There were always less people on the back roads I took which meant I didn't have to worry much about other drivers. It was just me and the road. Well, me, the road, and an anxious Luke.
Luke's grip on my waist would tense with every curve in the road and every time I sped up. I had a feeling I would find bruises in the shape of his hands later. When we pulled up to my house I felt Luke relax a little, but he kept his arms around me. I waited until I cut off the engine and removed my helmet before speaking.
I looked over my shoulder with a smirk. "We're here Mama's Boy. No need to be scared anymore."
He immediately retracted his arms and sputtered. "S-sorry."
"No need to apologize." I laughed. "You're not the first boy to put his arms around me."
I could tell by his flushed face that he was a little embarrassed. He made sure to hide his face from me as he stepped off and I found it a little cute. I kicked the kickstand down, got off my bike, and made my way to my front door.
As we walked in I had to kick an empty box out of the way so we wouldn't trip. I noticed Luke scanning the room with curiosity. The house was filled with both empty and unemptied boxes. Some were labeled and others were left blank. Not to mention half of our furniture was currently missing. The house was a mess.
"Moving?" Luke asked innocently.
I put my keys on the table by the door. "Foreclosure actually."
"Oh, Sorry." I could practically hear the pity in his voice.
I shrugged as I kicked off my shoes. "Not your fault."
He mimicked my actions of removing his shoes. "When do you have to move out by?"
"The end of the month." I sighed tiredly.
"Where is your family going to live?" He questioned.
"My parents found an apartment out of town." I made my way to the kitchen. "Want anything?"
He shook his head. "No thanks. So you're gonna be living in the city?"
I opened the fridge and hesitated with my answer. "Sure."
Luke didn't buy my answer. He was about to question me when my phone went off. I looked at the caller ID and smiled brightly.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey Sweets!" My dad said in his deep, gruff voice. I missed it terribly.
"Hey! Where are you right now?" I asked.
"Just entered the beautiful state of Montana." He answered.
"Don't forget-"
"Your post card, I know." He laughed. "How's school?"
I bit my lip. "Good."
"Uh-hu. Is that why I got another phone call from Mr. Quinn?"
"I have no idea what you are talking about."
"Piper."
"What, he was being a dick!" I explained.
My dad let out a sigh. "Look as your dad, you shouldn't have done that."
I smiled. "But?"
"But as a person, I am happy you stood up to that shit teacher of yours." He chuckled.
"Well I was raised right!" I pointed out.
"Yes you were." There was a loud honking noise and my dad started yelling at whoever was in front of him. "Now do your old man a favor and at least try to minimize the trouble. I don't want your future to be at risk."
