Over my the time of my 18 years of existence, I have found that the word Mother has several meanings. According to google, the definition of a mother is a woman in relation to a child or children to whom she has given birth. To Gabby, a mother is someone who you can go to when things get tough and can count on to love you no matter what. But to me, mother is just a word. It holds no value or joy in my heart. Especially when the woman who is suppose to fit the description lays a hand on the very one that gave them the right to be called a mother.
I hadn't had a mother in over 5 years. By now that was something I was use to. But today I needed one. Today was a day I need a hug from my mom. And instead I got a busted lip from a drunk.
As soon as my lip stopped bleeding, I picked up my phone and dialed the first person I could think of who would come get me at 11 o'clock on a school night.
"Hello?" A tired voice said.
"Luke, I need you to come get me." I rushed out.
"What is it? What's wrong?" He asked urgently.
I let out a shaky sigh. "Can you just please come get me?"
"Yeah, I'm leaving now. Where are you?"
"I'm at home."
There was a pause before he said softly. "I'll get there as fast as I can."
"Luke..."
"Yeah?"
I hesitated before asking. "Can I spend the night at your place?"
"Of course." Was all he responded with.
"Thank you." I whimpered before hanging up.
I Immediately began stuffing my back pack with things I needed for the next day. When that was done I paced back and forth around my room as I waited for Luke. The drunk was most likely asleep, but I didn't wanna chance leaving my room. When I heard Luke's car pull up I jumped out my window. I walked as fast as I could to the passenger side, but Luke stepped out before I had even reached the car.
"What happened?" He asked as he slammed the car door.
"Just get back in the car Luke." I told him as I glanced back at the house, making sure they didn't hear.
"Not until we talk about this." Luke reached out and grabbed my arm as I was walking away. He wasn't gripping tightly, but as an instinct I recoiled against his hold. Immediately, Luke let me go and stepped back with his hands covering his face. "I am so sorry. God I'm such an idiot."
A minute of quiet had passed before I reached forward and placed a hand on Luke's arm. "It's okay."
Luke looked at me with sad eyes. Slowly his hands came up to my cheeks as he said softly. "I will never lay a hand you that is in anyway harmful, okay?"
I nodded with a small smile. "I trust you."
I could see a flicker of emotions flash in Luke's eyes. For me to say something like that to someone was not a little thing and Luke knew that. I didn't mean for me to trust him the fast. But he had proved over the few weeks that he was worth trusting and I knew deep down inside that Luke would never hurt me. I would end up hurting him.
Luke's eyes flicked down to my lips and he frowned. He moved my head side to side so he could see the damage a little better in the streetlights. Then he leaned down and placed a soft kiss on my lips. It wasn't long enough to cause the pull in my stomach, but it was enough to send goosebumps up my arms.
Luke broke the kiss and rested his forehead on mine. His Bright blue eyes stared down into mine causing time and my breath to stop for a moment. "We should get going."
