5-I lost her...

Audrey didn't and can't sleep that night, she was too excited for today. The day she finally became a surgical resident. On the contrary, Neil was snoring and seems to be sleeping well enough. She took a look at her phone, it was only five-thirty in the morning. Audrey couldn't sleep. She sat up."Neil!" she atarted shaking him a little.

"Neil Melendez"She raised her voice up,but Neil was still asleep. Audrey stood up, she started dressing up, taking a shower. Making sure that she leave the best impression to the chief and the attendings.

Later, Melendez woke up and saw Lim already woken up brushing her teeth. "What on earth are you doing up so early? It's only like..." Melendez began finding his watch. "six-o-five in the morning" Neil said, yawning.

"Well, you may not know, we was trying to wake you up half an hour ago and you were sleeping as if you were dead." Audrey started mocking him. "And, not like you, I started preparing myself for my colleagues at hospital."

Melendez doesn't know what to say anymore so, he stood up and walked towards the Bathroom where Lim was brushing her teeth in. "Good morning, sweetheart." He kissed her on the cheek and started to take a shower.

"Morning" replied Lim, she doesn't feel really comfortable letting people call her 'sweetheart' but she smiled in happiness. "You better hurry, we need to get there by seven-fifteen!

"I am hurrying! And can you bring the towel for me please? And a coffee. Thanks!" Shouted Neil to Lim who is in the kitchen.

Lim and Melendez went on the car and headed to the hospital. "Okay Neil, listen, we are doctors in hospital, lovers at home." explained Audrey.

"Okay, understood" Replied Melendez.

"Okay now, residents. Dr. Lim and Dr Melendez, you cover the ER today understood?" Dr. Glassman ordered them. The two glanced eachother, trying to get saved from this strict chief of surgery.

They stepped into the ER, it was not really chaotic, and they were the only two residents in the ER. Soon after they finished two sutures, ordered 3 CTs the on-call nurse told them that big amount of truamas are coming in for no later than 10 minutes.

"Oh yes, finally there's people dying in this empty ER!" Claimed Lim. Melendez was beside her, he couldn't really unserstand but smiled anyways.

Soon after the coversation, 4 ambulances arrived the hospital. "Doctor Lim, you get this one!" said the ER nurse. She got a woman, 34 years old with a second degree bone fracture with no pulse and already performed CPR for 15 minute. It was really exciting for Lim, she saw the red strip wrapped on the woman's wirst and rushed to trauma 3.

"Her BP is 60/40, and has no pulse. We need shock her and start CPR, stat!" Lim ordered as she started CPR. "Charging to 300, clear." The nurse presented. "There's no improvement, again. Charging, clear".

Soon the fast beeping sound stopped and turned into a long deep 'Ding' sound. Audrey sighed."Time of death, 9:16 am" she graudally walked out of the room.

"Hey, why you in the on-call room? Should be saving lifes." said Melendez walking into the room and saw Lim lying on the bed.

"I lost a patient, and her husband is in the waiting room hoping good news about his wife would come to him." Cried Lim. "It's... it's rediculous, like, I lost a patient on my first day."

"It happens, and you, now, needs to face his husband. It was not you fault the patient died, you did everything you could." comforted Meledez. "Do you need me here? You ok?"

"No... Neil, we will talk about this later ok? You... you need to get back there. Go, go." said Lim pushing Melendez out of the door.

Short after, Lim walked out of the door, she decided to face the husband. "Doctor, is... is everything alright?" The husband asked nervously with tears in his eyes.

"I... I am sorry. We did everything we could..." Lim anounced. And suddenly, he collapsed. "I am sorry sir, I am so sorry for your lost, I understand..." said Lim.

"Shut up! Shut up! You don't know anything, you don't know the feeling of loosing... the... the one you love... The one you want to spend your life with... You don't you just... don't..." He yelled. Audrey stayed right there, doesn't know what to do. Glassman watched at the corner behind her, until the nurse brought her away.

Glassman slowly walked to her, she sat down on the chair with eyes staring into nowhere. "You did great, as a resident on their first day you know." said Glassman walking into the chair infront of her. "Thank you Doctor Glassman, I just..." replied Lim, trying her best to hold back her tears.

"You remind me of myself when I was a resident, trying to do everything perfectly you know" joked Glassman. "Go home, Audrey, go home, you've done enough already today."

"I am-" explained Lim. "I was ordering not asking." said Glassman walking away.

She walked home.

"Hey baby, haven't seen you since lunch. Where have you been?" Melendez walked into the room leaning down with Audrey together. She was staring down the cieling. "Do you love me? Neil, like, you enjoy soending time with me." Began Audrey.

"Yeah, of course. Why?" Confused Neil, he clearly sees that she was still struggling with that woman. He stroked her hair gently.

"Am I like the kind of person that you'd like to spend your life with?" continued Audrey. "Well, yes, hopefully." Answered Melendez.

She turned around, " If I died one day, will you be sad?" Questioned Lim, staring into his eyes. "Yessss... obiviously." He answered. Now Audrey started sobbing tears.

"I... I didn't mean to not save her, I tried my best... and I... I just." She started to have trouble breathing.

Okay... okay I know, I know. I believe you. Just calm down, calm..." Said Neil, hugging her in.

"I... I lost her.."cried Lim "I lost her"
