" Relax Cassie I won't bite you." he says jokinglyWe get to what seems to be the dining room and my mouth falls open as we head inside. Hundreds of white roses fill the room, on the door entrance , around the floor, and even the dining table has huge beautiful arrangements along the center with candles in between every arrangement and all around the floor. I can't help but get emotional because this is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me but I cant deny that uncertainty still lingers in the back of my mind.
Cole guides me closer to the table where 2 plate settings are set up at the end, letting go of his hand I follow along the opposite side of the table slightly behind Cole's pace and take my place next to him on the table as a young lady walks towards us.
"Can I get you started with anything to drink?" The young lady asks
"I will take a cup of iced water and a glass of Champagne please." I respond to the very attractive young girl
"The usual." Cole says without breaking eye contact with me.
"Of course Mr.Davis" she responds with a flirty tone causing an eye roll from me and a chuckle from Cole.
He seems uninterested in her advances and keeps his focus on me which calms my jealousy even though I have no reason to be.
"So.... how have you been ?" I ask trying to break the evident tension between us.
He seems to be contemplating what he wants to say and takes a deep breathe before finally speaking.
"It's been hell Cassie what else can I say? These last couple of weeks have been awful. I can't eat or sleep, Everything I do, Everywhere I go reminds me of you and shit have I tried to get you off my damn mind but nothing works." he admits leaving me speechless
I sit there stunned not knowing what to think or say, Cole has never been this open with his emotions. If I was honest with myself I would admit that I felt exactly the same, except I had work to keep me from thinking about his perfect form or the way his touch set goose bumps going throughout my whole body not realizing I was biting my lower lip starring at his crotch area.
"What is going through that head of yours, What I would give to know exactly what you are thinking in this moment " he whispers as he grabs a hold of my hand
" I don't know what to think, but I'm also not going to lie and say I don't miss you because I do. Craziness aside and bullshit aside I can't stop I wish I could, I would give anything to not have you on my mind all day every day." I respond giving his hand a small squeeze
The awkwardness creeps back and we stay with our eyes locked to one another for what seems like an eternity before we're interrupted by the servers bringing our food and drinks. We let go and I rest my napkin on my thigh, eating in silence savoring every bite purposely taking my time with each bite . After I finish my last bite I stare down at the empty plate trying to think of what comes next before finally looking up to catch Cole looking at me ready to devour me with one bite.
"So now what happens? Do we just become a regular couple and do normal couple things? We have to be realistic Cole, that'll never work there are to many secret and lies. I have my job and you have your own separate life that for whatever reason you cant tell me about. A relationship built on secrets and lies will NEVER work." I say finally breaking the silence.
He sits there studying my face thinking of what to say and weighing his options. His eyebrows scrunch together in exasperation as if he wanted to say something but he keeps quiet for what seems like and eternity before finally speaking up.
"You're right Cassie it wont work." He says knocking the air out of my body
"But don't you think its worth trying? I think we owe it to ourselves to give it a shot, We have something here I know you feel it when we touch. I am not going to let this go until I know I tried everything possible and even then I will keep trying because you're worth it." He confesses causing a little tear to betray me and come down my cheek.
