Chapter 38

Cassie

"Any idea what's going on Ron? Did he tell you anything?"

"No ma'am." He quickly says

"I don't believe you!" Squinting my eyes at him, he still doesn't budge

Pulling into the estate it still amazes me how big it is. As I'm getting off the car my phone rings and looking at it immediately my eyebrow lifts. Its my aunt? Why would she be calling? I send it to voicemail, deciding the best thing for now is to call her later. I can only deal with one problem at a time and right now Cole has me worried. People only get the " we need to talk" when they are breaking up. Maybe Lily is right and he got bored of me already like all the other girls.

Walking into his room and taking a deep breathe as he's sitting on the bed texting away, naturally I walk in slowly to not interrupt him. Unfortunately the door creaks causing him to look my way and breaking his concentration.

"I'm sorry I wanted you to finish with your business without interruption"

"I was done. Come in take a seat."Cole says sternly

Oh man he is breaking up with me. How am I going to tell Lily she was right. She's going to have a ball hearing me say it. Walking towards the desk in his room he gives me a puzzled look.

"Just get it over with Cole! I know what your going to say."

"You are?" He asks

"Yeah you could have just texted me, but you are more of a gentleman than I gave you credit for." I say angrily not letting him see any weakness from me.

"Cass I would never text you about this. You are way to important for just a text." He tries to get close to me as I laugh and pull away.

Cole is really confused at this point by my reaction, which he shouldn't be if he's breaking up with me why would he have Ron bring me here right? A simple text would suffice but not with Cole he wanted to se my humiliation in person.

"How can you say that I'm important when you're bringing me here to break up with me? I'm not important whatsoever if anything you just brought me here to see my pain up close, or to make sure I end up on your good side. Don't think I'm not on to you Cole just pretending to be nice to me because your brother is dating my best friend. So you thought you could earn points by letting me down gently in person. Whatever the reason is just know that I'm not someone who is to be played with and I will protect my best friend no matter what! So watch yourself!" I shout letting my anger get the best of me.

Soon I'm grabbing my bags and running towards the door but hearing Cole's foot steps running right behind, he's quickly hugging me with his strong arms. As he carries me back to the room I can't help but feel confused.

"Let me go!"

"Calm down Mi Bella (My Beautiful)! Let me explain you've got it all wrong. You weren't coming here to be broken up with! You are to important to me, how many times must I say it?" He says holding both sides of my arms and rubbing them up and down

Feeling my face turn red my head goes down to face the ground mostly from the confusion that's going through my mind. Why am I here then?

"Mi Amor (my love) don't ever think that again you hear me!" He assures me as he moves his hands up to my face and places a kiss on my forehead.

We stay that way for a few seconds with his lips on my forehead and neither of us saying a word. Soon he pulls away to explain himself.

"The reason you are here is because some things happened at the office this week and I'm forced to have security follow you around. Don't worry it will be as if they aren't there, it's only as a precaution until we're in the clear."

"What happened? What is the need for security? What about the hospital they can't be there are you crazy? No! The answer is NO Cole!" I raise my head and stand my ground this is not something that's going to work out.

"Cassie this wasn't a request, it's going to happen whether you want it to or not. I'm just giving you a heads up. We are not taking any chances with your life, they will be there at all times."His voice going deep and his jaw clenching along with his hands.

"What aren't you telling me about your job Cole? Financial advisors don't need security teams or guys with guns outside their homes! Should I be worried about my family? What the hell Cole! What aren't you telling me? Dammit!!" My voice raises at him

" There is nothing to worry about it's just one of my competitors that wants to take my clients. He isn't happy that most customers are part of my company so, he's trying to take them from me by blackmailing them. I just don't want you to be a target, I promise that's it." Cole puts his right hand over his heart.

"For your sake I hope you aren't lying to me Cole! Now if you'll excuse me I'm going home!" I walk out before he can respond.

The anger that is running through my veins is unmatched by anything, hopefully Lily has more answers than I was able to get. No security team is going to follow me around like a babysitter. Just thinking about it gets me angrier. At this point I'm not sure if it's because Cole isn't being honest about his job or because I'm a grown woman and I can take care of myself! This isn't the last of it I make a promise to myself to find out what is going on.
