"You there!" Shadis yells as he stands in front of Armin.

"Yes, sir!" Armin says as he puts a fist over his heart and puts his other arm behind his back, the salute of the soldiers.

"Who are you?" Shadis asks.

"Armin Arlert from Shiganshina District!" Armin says proudly.

"Yeah? That's a stupid name!" Shadis says as he insults the poor lad, "your parents give you that?".

"My grandfather!" Armin answers.

"Arlert, what are you doing here?" Shadis asks as he leans down to Armin.

"Trying to aid humanity's victory!" Armin says as he shuts his eyes.

"That is indeed wonderful, then you will feed the titans" Shadis says as he looks directly at Armin, "row 3, about face!".

Shadis grabs Armin by his head and spins him around so he's facing away from him.

"Who are you?" Shadis asks as he stands in front of a boy with blonde hair.

"Thomas Wagner, from Trost" Thomas says as he salutes.

"I can't hear you!" Shadis yells.

"Thomas Wagner, from-" Thomas says.

"Too soft! Go practice in the cattle shed!" Shadis shouts.

"There he goes" a man with dark grey hair says as he walks around the group of trainees, "when you were a trainee, your first day was just the same".

"It brings back memories" the younger man behind him says.

"You next!" Shadis yells as he stands in front of a young girl with short black hair.

"Mina Karolina, from Karanes!" Mina says as she salutes.

"Wrong! You are the from the pig's shed, less than cattle!" Shadis shouts as he leans down to her.

"Yes, sir! I am less than cattle!" Mina shouts as loud as she can.

"No, you are a fly swarming around a pig's ass!" Shadis shouts.

"Yes, sir!" Mina says.

"What's the point of shouting at them and insulting them?" the younger man asks the dark grey haired man.

"It's a rite of passage" the dark grey haired man says, "we force them to abandon who they are, then raise them from nothing as pure soldiers. It's a necessary process".

"You, next!" Shadis yells as he stands in front of a boy with back hair.

"Samuel Linke Jackson, from Snate Village!" Samuel shouts as he salutes.

"A horrible name, change it now!" Shadis orders, "what are you doing here?".

"Sacrificing myself for humanity!" Samuel replies.

"Row 4, about face!" Shadis orders as row 4 turns around.

"It seems like not all of them are being subjected to that process!" the younger man says as he watches Shadis walk straight past Eren.

"There is no need for those who have already undergone the rite of passage" the dark grey haired man explained, "if I were to guess, they probably already lived through hell two years ago. You can see it in their eyes. Now, let's go!" the man says as the two of them leave.

"Listen up!" Shadis shouts, "I've seen a lot of shit in my time but you are the sorriest pieces of shit I've ever seen! You're in for three years of hell! Now who are you?" Shadis asks as he stands in front of a tall boy with light brown hair.
