Hank rested his head on your lap and whined softly, looking at you with his deep brown eyes.
"I miss her too buddy" you sighed and ruffled his fur, gazing out at Seoul's sprawling skyline from Rosé's 10th floor apartment. It was a beautiful, luxurious, spacious apartment that was perfect for the two of you to live together in - except that she hadn't been home nearly a month.
Between her busy schedule with fashion shows, photo shoots, interviews (not to mention parties), and now that she'd bought houses in Paris, New York and Los Angeles, your long-time girlfriend was barely home in Seoul anymore.
That's why you were here, taking care of Hank as usual. You loved spending time with him, he was a great dog and you both kept each other company, but it didn't sit well that being Rosé's significant other had pretty much been reduced to dog-sitting while she was out travelling the world. As you and Hank sat together here, you both felt somewhat left behind.
It hadn't always been like this. You and Rosé had been such a tight-knit part of each other's lives since Blackpink's trainee days, when she had to sneak out of the dorm to meet you so YG wouldn't catch her dating. You cracked a smile remembering how she'd once climbed out of the dorm's second story window to meet you down below, and looking up to see Jisoo, Jennie and Lisa cheering silently from inside.
You pulled out a scrapbook full of Polaroids that you and Rosé had taken together over the years. Hank looked curiously as you flipped through the happy memories of Disneyland, Jeju Island, Australia and all the things you'd done together.
As you got to the older pictures Hank suddenly put his paw on the page to stop you from flipping it. He stared at a picture from 2017 of you and Rosé in her room at the Blackpink House where they'd filmed the reality series. He tilted his head, looking puzzled.
"What's up Hankie?" you asked. He seemed fascinated by that picture for some reason.
Suddenly you understood. Rosé had brown hair in this picture; Hank's whole life, he had only ever known her as blonde.
"Yeah, that's your mom alright." you said to him, patting his head. He frowned, as if thinking: Mom really used to have brown fur?
You chuckled, "I know, she looks like a totally different person". The brown haired Rosé felt like a totally different person too. A person you missed dearly.
As Blackpink had gotten bigger and bigger, going from a promising young Kpop group to the biggest girl group in the world, your world and hers had slowly diverged.
You'd tried to accompany her on tour and fly with her to Paris for her fashion work with YSL, but it was tough because you also had your own job and friends in Seoul. On top of that, the times she'd brought you to her glamorous events and parties you felt so out of place.
But what bothered you wasn't Rosé's busy Kpop star life; you'd accepted long ago that it was part of the deal dating her, and you'd both been making it work for years. Despite not being able to see each other for extended periods of time, she had always found a way to make time for you when she had a gap in her schedule.
No, that wasn't what bothered you. What bothered you was that it seemed like she wasn't trying anymore.
She'd go long periods without answering your messages, although she still had time to update her Instagram. She'd forget about things going on in your life that you'd told her, and when you talked her eyes didn't have that same enamored sparkle like they used to. It seemed like she'd found other sources of happiness in her celebrity lifestyle, and even though she always insisted you were her everything, she felt like a glacier quietly receding year by year.
Every day you woke up alone in your shared king size bed with the anxiety of not knowing when she'd be next to you again. You longed for the days she used to wake you up with a morning kiss and tell you how beautiful you looked even with messy bed hair. The longer it went on the more the pain grew.
You'd almost reached the end of your rope several times, but never quite enough to call it quits. What made it difficult was that the rare times when you finally got to see her, she was always so sweet, loving and caring like how it used to be, and then you were in love all over again.
A couple months ago you had actually confronted her and told her that you couldn't let her keep causing you pain for much longer. She'd been surprised and said she had no idea you'd been feeling this way - unsurprising, given she hadn't been paying attention - but she'd apologized profusely, reassured you that you were the love of her life, and promised to treat you better. She seemed sincere and it felt great to finally get it off your chest.
The next few weeks were wonderful, feeling like you'd finally gotten back your Rosie, as you always called her. But that didn't last and soon she faded off again, "forgetting" to reply to your texts meanwhile posting selfies with Anthony Vaccarello and other YSL staff.
Tonight she was supposed to video call you from LA, something you'd been planning all week. It was actually supposed to be yesterday, but she'd texted last minute and asked if you could reschedule for today instead.
You checked your phone: 7:00 in the evening, the time you'd agreed on.
You texted her: Ready?
No reply for 10 minutes.
You texted again: Are we calling tonight or not?
3 minutes later she finally replied: OMG sorry!! Yessss of course babe just give me a couple more minutes to get ready. love uuu 💕
You bit your tongue and waited another 5 minutes until she finally called.
"Heyyyy" she smiled, "How's my love Y/N?"
You were once again in awe of how beautiful she was, beaming at you and calling you her love. But the sentiment was tainted a feeling of disrespect. How could she keeping pushing you to the side but then smile like everything was so great?
You decided to keep the vibe happy and enjoy getting a chance to talk to her.
"Yeah I'm good" you replied, making yourself smile. "So happy to see your face again, it's been a while." She was wearing fresh makeup, had done her blonde hair in a wavy ponytail and wore a pretty blue blouse. It made you feel good to see she'd made an effort to look nice for you. "You look great by the way, as always."
"Aw thanks babe you too! Yeah, sorry I couldn't video call the other days life's just been so busy! I had the Elle cover shoot yesterday and we got some really great shots in this new satin Saint Laurent dress, then one of the photographers invited me to a party and I was introduced to the executive of Omega watches and I might be able to land a campaign with them for their Fall collection! Ah, what a night..." She smiled up at the ceiling, almost forgetting you were there.
"Wow. That sounds great Rosie. Seems like you're really happy out there."
She noticed the bittersweet expression on your face. "Anyway! Enough about me, what have you been up to?"
Your life seemed really boring in comparison. "You know, work, friends, sports, looking after Hank." Who's becoming my dog at this point, you thought but didn't say.
"Awwww Hankie! My baby, where is he??"
You got Hank and let her oggle over him for a minute while you gathered your thoughts. It was clear Rosé was caught up in the rich & famous lifestyle, and that was something you weren't a part of.
