=San's POV=
"I know what happened to the pack members." I finally confessed, looking away from Wooyoung as his head snapped toward me with a raised brow.
I couldn't look him in the eyes as he desperately tried to search mine, waiting but not patiently, for me to proceed.
"What?" Wooyoung awkwardly chuckled, hoping I'd say it was some sort of twisted joke. I shook my head, turning myself even further away from him. "Our lord.. He announced the feast last night." It was all that had to be said for him to get the message.
When the penny dropped, everything fell silent. I turned to face Wooyoung, holding onto his slumped shoulder. "Look. I kno-" I was cut off by the sudden slap of my hand as his face turned to look at me with nothing but pure disgust on it while he stood up, towering over me.
"A feast..?" He clarified to himself before looking at me dead in the eye. "You ate them?!" He snapped at me, silencing the laughs of Yeosang and Yunho in the distance.
I couldn't reply. The hostility in his eyes were no joke, how his jaw clenched and grinded against the teeth inside and the vein on his temple looking like it was ready to burst. The look on Wooyoung's face sent shivers down my spine but what really silenced me was the look in his eye, they silently screamed one word into my face, causing me to feel like a mouse cornered by a tiger.
It was the one thing I had associated with Sacrosanct but separated myself from for decades as I grew more hatred toward them all.
'Monster.'
It was all I could read from the paragraphs of pure rage on his expression. "I.." I stopped, watching as the others ran over confused. "I didn't do anything.." Was all I could muster in the pool of guilt I was beginning to find myself sinking into. "But your family did!" He spat in my face, looking down at me.
I couldn't help but feel offended by that. I stood up, a little taller than him now. "Family?" I sounded a bit more defensive than I had planned. He nodded and I scoffed. "I don't have a family." I snapped back, causing the anger on Wooyoung's face to warp into a confused look. "Sacros-"
"You think I want to live amongst monsters?" I spat back, vemon laced in the last word of my question. Wooyoung's head tilted slightly along with Yeosang who turned to Yunho for help.
"I never did anything to your friends- in fact, I felt sick to the bone when Seonghwa toasted the feast. I haven't eaten in a week already. You think I wanted to starve myself more?" I shouted, desperately wanting to defend myself.
I wasn't a monster.
"Do you think living every day in fear is fun? To have no sense of freedom and live every single day locked away in a castle, surrounded by people you can't stand?!"
I wasn't like Seonghwa.
I was ranting at the top of my lungs, seething and my vision began to blur as I lost sight of Wooyoung through my tears. "I can't stand this life anymore." I finally broke, falling back down and crying into my knees.
I heard Yunho say my name as he ran over to my side, falling to his knees and comforting me. He sighed as he rubbed my back with his cold hands.
"Sacrocanct is more of a cult than it is a family." Yunho explained as I silently sobbed my pain out. "Seonghwa is a dictator who's brainwashed everyone into believing he's a god amongst peasants. Anyone who doesn't agree with him is either killed on the spot or disappears during the night." He continued with his exhausted tone.
"Is.. Is that why you never tell me about Sacrosanct?" Yeosang softly questioned, Yunho didn't verbally answer but I knew he at least nodded. "It's why I wanted to hear so much about your pack." He chuckled, sadness seeping through it. "I'd give up everything to have a family." He finished as I lifted my head up. Wooyoung knelt down in front of me, placing a gentle hand on one of my knees and looking me dead in the eye.
"I'm so sorry." His brown eyes were far different from earlier. The anger washed away and now filled with nothing but despair. I sat staring into his eyes for what felt like a life time before a lightbulb went off in his head. He stood up, swapping his eyes between the three of us.
"What if we could get you a real family?" He asked, hope clear in his tone. Yunho and I looked at each other with cautious eyes before turning our attention back to the hopeful wolf. "If you guys told the pack everything, maybe they'd sympathise with you and take you in? Especially if Yeosang and I have your back!" He smiled. I turned to Yeosang who was stuck in thought, then to Yunho who looked over the moon.
"You mean that?" Yunho's voice was filled with optimism and desperation. Wooyoung nodded as he ushered them both to sit down next to me. I wiped my eyes, clearing my throat and watching the wolf I'd come to like in front of me. "If you guys can come with us, we'll stay by your side and bring you to Hongjoong, our Alpha. You explain your whole story to him and what happened to the wolves, I can try to talk him into letting you join us. He's not difficult." He smiled and Yunho without a second thought agreed. I looked to him to see the biggest smile on his face, eagerly awaiting my answer.
This wasn't a good idea. This was a horrible idea.. Betray your own kind? I wanted to say no but Yunho's desperation, hope and wishes forced me against my own will.
"They really are like one big family."
His words from the previous night echoed through my head, I remembered the exhaustion and hurt in his voice when he recalled how Yeosang spoke about the love he has for those he lives with. If I refused the plan Wooyoung had made, I'd be crushing his dreams and killing his spirit along with it.
I looked back to Wooyoung, sitting up and nodding. "Let's do it." I forced a smile, terrified for what was to come.
This was going to start a war.
