=San's POV=

As Yunho and I continued our laughter amongst the quiet breeze and soft sounds of the water behind us, we thought about how we'd have to escape the castle more often. "This can't be our only visit." I sighed, facing Yunho who also seemed to share my mixed expression.

Don't get it wrong- we loved the outdoors now that we had a chance to experience it for ourselves however, it came at a risk. Seonghwa had clearly stated anyone who ignores the rules is immediately seen as a traitor and will be treated as such.

"We'll figure it out." Yunho assured me as we stood up from our sitting position, about to venture further off into the Forest when a sudden whimper came from behind us. Yunho and I snapped around, cautious of the outdoors and locked onto the creator of the noise. I took a whiff of the boy's scent, immediately putting a guard up. "Werewolf." I commented, letting Yunho know what was wrong.

The werewolf stood up, hands up as if surrendering. "Woah- Sorry about that. My friend here accidentally shoved me." He chuckled with a bright smile on his face but his eyes were filled with caution, same as us. "Oh wow so you'd really give me up like that?" Another voice snapped at him from behind the bushes before coming into view, pushing the other one slightly. "Oh so you're saying you'd leave me?!" The first snapped back. I looked at Yunho as the two wolves proceeded to argue with each other.

"You're going to hate me for saying this but.. Didn't Seonghwa say werewolves would kill vampires on sight?" Yunho mumbled to me and I raised a brow, seeing how the two kept arguing and completely forgot our presence. "Remember what you said earlier? Yeah.. I'm inclined to believe Seonghwa lied about everything, too." We continued to watch the two wolves argue until the first one looked back at us, reminding himself that we were also there.

"S-So what are two vampires doing out in broad daylight..?" He asked, keeping his distance and hands in the open to try and show us he meant no harm- for the time being. "We come here all the time." I lied, instantly gaining a scoff from the two wolves. "No you don't." They both said in sync. I scrunched my eyebrows, looking them up and down. "Yeah we do." I argued back as the second one stood forward. "You don't. We know this because we come here everyday." He explained and I sighed. "Fine okay. We were just exploring." I folded my arms in defeat, starting to notice the constant glances from the other wolf on me.

"Truce?" The wolves asked us. I turned to Yunho for guidance but he was just as puzzled as I was. "Truce." I stated to Yunho who simply nodded, hoping I had made the right decision.

The wolves came closer to conversational distance away and sat down, hoping we'd do the same. We did. "I'm Wooyoung from the Lupus pack and this is my best friend Yeosang, also from my pack. We live South from here." He smiled. I tried to look into his eyes, to see what secret ulterior motives lay beneath them but his smile seemed nothing but genuine. I looked down to see he had a hand out to me, looking back up I saw his friendly and warm smile once more before deciding to accept the handshake. His hands were warm but rough. As I'd imagine most wolves' hands to be. "I'm San and this is Yunho, my best friend. We're from the Sacrosanct Castle up north." I explained, smiling a little toward the boy I'd just befriended.

We sat there with awkward silences in-between basic questions such as what the forest was like and our interests. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the wolves were but I never once let my guard down entirely. This could have been one huge trick- there could even be more of them in the bushes just waiting for us to let our guard down.

"What's it like?" Wooyoung suddenly asked me, bringing me back to the conversation at hand. "What's what like?" I raised a brow before he chuckled. "What's living in a castle like?" He expanded. "Oh.." I mumbled, reminding myself that soon we'd be back in that hell hole. "Y-Yeah. It's fine, I guess.. Not much happens." I chuckled awkwardly, trying to find a way to change the topic. "What's a pack like? How do you live?" I asked, hoping he'd not force any more answers out of me. "Hmm.. Well.. We're one giant family and we live in a giant three story wooden cabin down south! It's huge! It was made by our ancestors and we've lived there a long time!" Wooyoung happily explained. "Family?" Yunho suddenly questioned. "Yeah. I mean not biological family obviously.. There's too many of us for that." Yeosang clarified with a smile. "So you guys are all close?" Yunho questioned again and it earned raised eyebrows from both wolves. "Pff. Just like any family is!" "Yeah, we help each other with problems and look out for one another." They both explained, leaving us both speechless.

Back home in Sacrosanct, It's everyone for themselves as you don't know who's secretly Seonghwa's minion waiting to rat you out. The last person who was caught disobeying Seonghwa's words was my uncle. I haven't seen him in two decades since he disappeared the night he was snitched on.

All he did was question Seonghwa's beliefs on werewolves.

"Yeah. Yeah I get that." Yunho lied to the wolves, smiling through gritted teeth. "Family." He repeated, clearly jealous of the two wolves before looking down and seeing his stop watch's time. He nudged me, offering his watch to me. Time had passed much faster than we had anticipated. "We need to go." He sternly spoke, standing up along with me. "It was nice to meet you guys. It was surprisingly.. Pleasant." I told them as they stood up, too. "Yeah.. Our pack leader told us vampires were emotionless killing machines. You guys sure proved that wrong." Wooyoung joked and I laughed. "Our lor- leader, he told us you guys were just vermin that tried to kill vampires on sight." I told them as they joined in with the laughter. "Jeez. I wonder if we're special or if our leaders just haven't met the other species before." Yeosang asked and we all shrugged. "It would be nice to meet again." I looked over to Wooyoung and the way he looked at me made me question whether he meant the four of us or just me. "You guys come every day, right?" "We won't be able to make it every day but maybe every second or third day. We'll see." I smiled back to Wooyoung as Yunho tugged on my arm, impatiently. "Bye guys!" He waved to the wolves as we ran back through the forest.

"That was a weird encounter." Yunho laughed as we ran back to the Castle, trying to race time before everyone woke up. "We're late. We lost track of time." He continued, ushering me to run as fast as we both could. "Let's hope no one's awake yet." I prayed as the castle came into view.
