"Alright, this is our only chance, boys," you say, holding Tech's datapad as you had just read over the plan again. "Are we all clear on the plan?"
"Yes," the Batch responds, and you nod.
"May I speak with you privately, y/n?" Tech asks, and you smile at him while following him to the back.
"What's up? Everything alright with the plan?"
"Yes, the plan has a 34.8374% chance of succeeding," he says, and your smile falters as you wince at the number. "It is the best odds out of any plan we came up with," he assures you after noticing your reaction.
"That doesn't exactly make me feel better," you respond with a nervous laugh.
"Don't worry, ner cyare," he says while smiling down at you, "I'll be right by your side if you need anything."
"Hmm, well according to the plan, you'll be on the complete other side of the base," you counter.
"Right," Tech says, scratching the back of his neck.
"But I know what you mean," you say, giving him a soft smile before planting a kiss on his cheek. With cheeks flushed, Tech clears his throat and adjusts his goggles.
"Was that all you wanted?"
"Oh, no. I wanted to tell you how much this means to me, well, us, that you're willing to risk your life to help us rescue our brother even though you've never met him."
"Crosshair is as much a part of my family as you guys are," you respond, "I'll do anything I can to help him."
"Thank you, ner cyare."
"You're welcome, my handsome trooper," you say, causing him to flush again. You giggle when he tries to cover it, and you leave him alone to head back up to the cockpit.
"We almost there?" you ask, and Echo nods.
"Just gotta land in these trees and then we're good to go."
As soon as the ship lands, the boys grab their weapons and you make sure your lightsaber is clipped securely on your belt. Before leaving, you tell Omega to keep the ship on and ready for take off, and she nods and hops into the pilot's seat. You and the boys head off the ship together and begin to make your way to the base. So far, everything has gone smoothly, but your experience tells you that that only means it'll be much more difficult when you get inside.
"Ready?" Tech says as you reach the wall, and you nod. He holds his hands out for you, and you use them as a step to help jump up the wall. When you land, you immediately have to knock out two troopers, which you then strip of their armor and toss one set down to the others.
"Okay, I've got my armor on and I'm going to go try to get inside the main building. Let me know when you all get in as well."
"Be careful, y/n," Hunter says, and you huff in amusement before responding.
"You know me, Hunter. I'm always careful."
"Maybe when you and Tech are getting hot and sweaty," Wrecker jokes, and Tech is thankful for the set imperial armor you tossed down to cover his flushed face.
"Let's get inside and get armor for the rest of you. I don't want y/n in there alone for too long," Tech says, and the others nod, following behind him as he goes to the entrance. As soon as the door opens, they're met with a squad of troopers.
"Hands up!" Hunter says, immediately pointing his blaster at Tech's back. Tech throws his hands up, and the imperial troopers raise their blasters at the rest of the Batch. "We don't want any trouble, as proof of that, we've brought your little friend back." He nudges Tech in the back with his blaster, and Tech steps forward to join the squad of troopers.
"What's the catch?" one of them asks, and Hunter looks at Echo, who steps forward.
"We need to send a transmission. Our transmitter is broken."
"What kind of transmission?"
"Classified information," Echo responds.
"You know the Empire will be able to read it," another trooper says, and Echo nods.
"That's what we're counting on."
"Is this some sort of trap?" the first trooper asks, raising his blaster to aim at Echo.
"No, it's quite the opposite. We want to surrender, but only if Admiral Rampart is there to see it in person."
"Huh, well, we're gonna keep an eye on you just in case you try something," the trooper responds before turning to one of his squad mates. "You, take this man to the medbay and make sure they didn't harm him."
"Yes, sir!" he responds. "Come on, buddy. You're back with us, now."
"What a relief," Tech says, hiding the sarcasm in his voice.
As the trooper leads him, Tech takes the time to observe the inside of the building. He makes mental notes of the hallways and turns, knowing it was crucial to their escape.
"Wait here," the trooper says when they reach the medbay, "I'll go get a medic."
"Alright, no rush, though," Tech says, "I was not injured at all."
"Still gotta check, it's protocol," the trooper responds, and Tech just sits and nods. "You can take your helmet off, you know."
"I prefer to keep mine on. Helps to blend in."
"You're right about that." The trooper walks out then, and once he's far enough away, Tech turns on his comm.
"Y/n, I'm in the medbay now. Another trooper has gone to get a medic, so I'd suggest getting here quickly."
"Don't worry, Tech," you respond, "I've been waiting around the corner." You slip into the room, leaning against the doorway when you do. "I like your helmet better, it lets me see your handsome face."
"Now is hardly the time for flirting," Tech counters, standing up to follow you out of the room, "but I must admit, this armor covers all of the parts of you that I like to look at."
"And what parts would those be?" you ask, and he shushes you as he grabs your arm, holding you back as a group of troopers walk by.
"If you want to remain on this base, you're going to need to watch where you're going," Tech says, loud enough for those passing by to hear.
"Yes, sir. Sorry, sir."
"Now, tell me, what is the override code for when the security doors lock in an explosion and you cannot get the normal buttons to work?"
"I-uh...don't think I ever learned that..."
"Hmm, well, I guess they're not training superior troopers anymore," he comments, and it irks you for some reason, and so you use the force to cause Tech to trip.
"Don't forget to watch where you're going," you say as you step past Tech, and he looks up at you as you stand above him, arms folded and waiting for him to stand.
"I see that I need to watch my words as much as I need to watch where I'm going," he mutters to himself, and follows you as you lead him to the office room.
"This room was supposed to be cleared out five minutes ago!" you shout, and the troopers around jolt up in surprise.
"Sorry, ma'am, there was a-"
"I don't care for your excuses. Leave this room at once!"
"Yes, ma'am," they respond, and you wait by the door to lock them out after they exit.
"Hunter, Wrecker, Echo, have you guys managed to send a transmission yet?"
"Yeah, and Rampart is on his way," Hunter confirms.
"Good. We're in the office now. Go ahead and make your way up here."
"I have an escape route planned out in my mind," Tech adds, "if all goes to plan, we will be able to leave without suspicion."
"Actually, Tech," you say, "I need you to be the one to greet Rampart and bring him here to us."
"What? I thought Echo-"
"Echo's scomp arm would be too much of a give away, it's a miracle that it hasn't been already," you say. "Besides, you know the best ways to...sweet talk Rampart."
"I will be doing no such thing as sweet talking Rampart. I will, however, make sure he comes willingly."
"That's what I meant," you say. "Now be safe, handsome."
"And you as well, ner cyare," he says before leaving the room. You move to the viewport, waiting for Hunter, Echo, and Wrecker to arrive, while also watching for Rampart's ship.
~~~
"Come on," Wrecker says while slumping in a chair, "what is taking so long?"
"Rampart was likely not very close by, as this system is pretty well secured by the Empire," Echo explains. "There's no telling when he'll arrive."
"You didn't think to ask for an estimated time?"
"No, Wrecker, I didn't."
"Ahhh," Wrecker groans, and you hold up your hand for them all to be silent.
"Your wish has been granted, Wrecker," you say, turning to face them. "Rampart's ship has just arrived."
"Is Crosshair with him?" Hunter asks, moving to look out the viewport.
"I'm not sure. I don't exactly know what he'll look like, either."
"Just picture a taller, dark armored clone with a very long sniper rifle."
"Ah, yes, that gives me a perfect mental image," you say sarcastically.
"There goes Tech," Echo comments, and you turn to look back out. Sure enough, Tech greets Rampart and a clone trooper, someone who fits the description of Crosshair.
"He looks pleasant," you say sarcastically, watching as Rampart practically shoves Tech out of the way to make his way inside. Tech and Crosshair exchange a glance, and you hope that his cover isn't blown. Tech goes ahead of him, and you hold your breath when they're no longer in view.
"Alright, everyone get into position," Hunter says, and you all move to where you'd decided on. Echo stands at your side while you sit in a chair, and Hunter and Wrecker stand on either side of the door. After a few minutes, the door opens to reveal Rampart, Tech, and Crosshair.
"Please, come in," you say, motioning to the area in front of the desk.
"I have no idea what you insurgents are planning," Rampart begins, "but you will not succeed."
"We are merely turning ourselves in," you say, removing your helmet to meet Rampart's gaze with your own eyes.
"I know you," he mutters, eyes squinting as he tries to remember your name.
"Do you? I don't believe we've ever met."
"No, but I've seen you on a wanted list," he says.
"With all due respect, Admiral Rampart, every one of us, save for you and your dark armored trooper, are on a wanted list. It hardly narrows your options down."
"Tell me what you're really here for," Rampart demands, slamming his hand onto the table. You don't flinch, instead you lean back and stare at him.
"Do you really not believe me?"
"No."
"Perhaps you'll believe your trooper," you say before looking past him. "Crosshair, isn't it?"
"Yes," he replies.
"Come forward, would you please?" Crosshair silently steps forward, and you can feel him eyeing you through his helmet.
"How would you like a free pass out of the Empire, and a chance to reconnect with your squad?"
"I am a soldier who serves the Empire," he replies, "my allegiance is not to my former squad mates."
"A pity," you say, waving a hand dismissively. In a flash, both Rampart and Crosshair are shot with stuns. "Quickly, we need to get out of here before people begin to worry."
"How are we going to get Crosshair out without it looking suspicious?" Hunter counters, and you think for a second before looking at Tech.
"I'll leave by myself-"
"No," Tech cuts you off, swiping his hand as if to motion against the idea. "That is not an option."
"It's the only option," you counter. "I can escape easier than any of you. Besides, they'll be looking for you guys, not me."
"I don't like this plan."
"I didn't ask for your feelings on it," you reply. "Now, I'm going to burst out of the room while you guys take Rampart and Crosshair out towards the ship."
"What? Why Rampart?" Echo asks.
"Because, if they see you leaving him behind, you'll look suspicious. Get them onto his ship and take off. Have Omega take off and meet you somewhere safe."
"But what about you?" Hunter asks, and you give him a smirk.
"Don't worry about me, I've got my own plan."
"I like this idea even less," Tech says, and you roll your eyes before putting the helmet back on.
"Just do as I said, and we'll all get out of here safely." They all nod and you open the door, breaking into a sprint as you leave.
"Out of the way!" Hunter yells, helping Tech carry Rampart, "we need to get the Admiral to his ship!"
"What happened?" another trooper asks, and Wrecker responds as he runs out with Crosshair.
"Someone dressed in clone armor stunned the Admiral and this trooper."
"Where did they go?"
"I think they went that way," Echo says, motioning in the opposite direction that they were running.
"Everyone, lock down the south wing!" the trooper yells into his comm, and the doors in front of you start to close. Cursing to yourself, you speed up and jump through the last one you can fit through. Quickly, you look around to see if anyone else is nearby, and to your luck, it's clear.
"Time to do this the old fashioned way," you say to yourself before igniting your lightsaber and beginning to cut a hole through the door. Once you do, you kick your way through and are met with blasters.
"Hold it right there, Jedi," a trooper says, and you clench your jaw before using the force to throw them back. When they get back to their feet, you begin deflecting their shots back at them. As much as it hurts you to kill them, you have no choice if you want to make it out alive.
"This better kriffing work," you mumble to yourself as you leave behind the carnage. As you run around a corner, another squad of troopers greets you, and begins firing. Again, you kill them all, clearing the path for your escape.
