True love didn't exist before you || Anthony Bridgerton

~ 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐷𝑢𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑠 ~

I heard quick steps coming closer and then somebody knocking on my door. I thought who it might be, it was early, I had just changed into my dress before the knocking came. Still heading to the door, hand on the door handle ready to open it.

There were servant behind my door, holding envelope on his hand. "Miss, I believe this is for you." And he handed the envelope to me. I knew exactly what is was, quickly taking it and thanking him bringing it to me. I closed the door before rushing to my table, where my letter knife laid on. Opening the envelope it came flowery smell with it, probably mama had put some dry flowers inside of the envelope. I was right, white and violet flowers dropped onto my table as I turned the envelope upside down.

Not wasting any time more I began to read my letter.

How I have missed you too, dear child. There isn't day that I wouldn't had thought about you before waking up or falling asleep. But we will see each other again, promise! I do not know when I will come back but I was hoping before the season ends. And it got me thinking how things are? Is there some fine handsome gentleman who has charmed you? How are you and Lady Danbury doing?

I was visiting my papa and mama yesterday and told you are missing them and wished them well. They would love to see you, after not seeing you for a long time. Your cousins, aunts and uncles would love to see you too, how you have grown since the last time they saw you.

I am enjoying my time here very much, I didn't even realise how much I needed this and get away from London. How I miss you would be here too.. Maybe we can do little trip here after I have come back. You should see the parks here, I have walked hours and read books. Of course I have helped my friend, she is getting better but still needs some help with her house and with daily basics.

Please do send more letters to me, I would live to hear what you have been doing. Oh and almost forgot you have a new cousin, Esthel gave birth just before I arrived in France. Her name is Daisy, oh I am sure you will love her as much we all do already.

It was so nice to hear about her, and how she was doing in France. I was happy for my aunt Esthel, that she gave birth to Daisy successfully. I was more than excited to see my new cousin.

But her words got me thinking, what she meant by is there some fine gentleman who has charmed you? It was little mysterious. There wasn't really no one.. but only Anthony. He was maybe closest thing to that. Of course I had have some suitors visiting me in Lady Danbury's house but rejected them all, none of them seeming very special all the same. I had thought I was by far the worst season's diamond that queen had ever chosen. Maybe she wanted someone new, who people didn't know very well, maybe she thought choosing me as her diamond I would had brought something new to this season. But the queen was wrong, I didn't care about being the diamond of the season.

It was good to hear she was enjoying her time in France, taking time for herself that was what she needed. After taking care of me for so many years she needed some rest and time to herself.

Not thinking about it more I grabbed quill pen and paper and wrote short letter back. I wrote how happy I was to hear everyone were okay and how I couldn't wait to see my new cousin. I didn't tell her about Anthony, it was not that big thing and nothing serious had happened between us, yet. Lastly I sent all my love to her and wishing we would see soon. I closed the envelope and gave it to my servant like last time.

"Brimsley! Come here!" The queen yelled to her right hand. Soon little man with pale skin walked front of the queen, making little bow before answering.
