3rd POV:
"Boom!" Dustin shouts, his voice echoing through the woods.
They all turn to him with a questioning look and he just gives them a huge, knowing smile. He figured it out.
"Bada...bada...boom." He says, copying Steve from earlier as he pointed at him. "I was right. Skull Rock was north." He says and Steve throws his head back with a sigh of frustration that they are still having this argument.
"Seriously? You're serious?" Steve asks him, slightly annoyed he was still going on about this.
"Mm-hmm." Dustin hums.
"This is Skull Rock. Okay?" Steve says, gesturing to the large rock beside them.
"Mm-hmm." Dustin hums again.
"You're totally, absolutely, 100% wrong. Right now." Steve says, getting agitated.
"Yes. And no." Dustin says, confusing everyone.
"Oh my god." Steve huffs in annoyance.
"This compass worked correctly when we left the Wheelers'. It was correct when we got in the car on Curly. But it started to slip the further east we went. Now it's way off. When I was leading us here, I wasn't wrong. The compass was." Dustin explains.
"So you're using faulty equipment. Dude, you're still wrong." Steve says.
"Except it isn't faulty. Lucas, do you remember what can affect a compass?" Dustin turns and asks.
"An electromagnetic field." Lucas answers.
"Yep." Dustin agrees.
"I'm sorry. I must've skipped that class." Robin says.
"I'm a little lost too." Ivy says.
"In the presence of a stronger electromagnetic field, the needle will deflect towards that power. So either there's some super big magnet around here, or..." Dustin explains.
"There's a gate." Lucas finishes for him and Dustin points to him in excitement.
"But we're nowhere near the lab." Nancy says.
"But what if, somehow, there's another gate? A gate that we don't know about. It'd have to be smaller. Way less powerful." Dustin says.
"Snack-size gate." Robin says.
"How? Why?" Steve asks.
"No idea. All I know is that something is causing this disturbance, and the last time we've seen anything like it, it was a gate. And I hope it is because then we'd have a way to Vecna. And a shot at freeing Max from this curse." Dustin says and then he starts to walk off.
"Where are you going? Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey." Steve shouts after him, making Dustin stop. "Eddie's still a wanted man. We can't just go for a hike in the woods." Steve says.
