it might have appeared to go unnoticed
but i've got it all here in my heart
i want you to know i know the truth, of course i know it
i would be nothing without you

Imlie was discussing the exam paper with one of her classmates when she heard it. Someone was whimpering nearby. "Did you hear that? Is it coming from the back of the building?"
"What," the classmate wasn't paying attention. Imlie gestured to her to stay quiet and listen. This time they both heard it.
"Seems like someone is getting beaten up in that corner," her classmate stated. "Should we get help?"
"Get help? I'm going to help them myself, whoever that is," Imlie responded. She tied her dupatta in a sideway knot and picked up a big stone. "College bullying, I'll teach them a lesson."
"Imlie stop, you don't even know what this is about, you will get yourself into trouble."
"I'm Imlie from Pagdandiya, I'm not afraid of anything."
"Well, I'm sensible, so I'm afraid of the things that I should be afraid of, I'm not going there. You are on your own."
"Coward," Imlie muttered, cautiously making her way towards the noise, "Jai Sita Maiyaa ki!"
The scene was not good. Five guys were beating up one guy who had his face covered with his arms. Imlie could only see the mop of curly hair, and heard him pleading. "Please, please, let go of me. I can't help you, I don't know how!"
"Don't lie! We know that you can, we also know what all you did. You'll help us if you know what's good for you."
"No, please, don't."
Imlie stepped forward, stone ready, "Oye, what's happening here. Let him go, you can't beat him like this."
"Look girl, go away, this doesn't concern you. Don't make us hurt you."
"I'd like you to try!" Imlie shouted. "First one to approach me will get a face full of stone, and I'll break the rest's spine with my elbow. Let him go."
"Dekh ladki, you are messing with the wrong people. You don't know who we are."
"Won't take too long to find out," Imlie quickly snapped pictures of all of them. One of them approached her, "Don't click photos, we'll break your phone!"
Imlie pretended to throw the stone at him, the guy ducked, but instead of throwing Imlie dropped it on his foot and punched his stomach. The man howled in pain. Two others approached her menacingly. Imlie had no weapons left.
That was not correct.
Remember Imlie, no matter what the fight is, your best weapon is always your brain.
"Don't," she is warned. "I've taken your photos, and no. Breaking my phone won't achieve anything. I've got mobile data on, I've got cloud backup on, and guess what my colleague has access to this account," she fibbed. "Oh no, you don't know what colleague? Bhaskar Times. I'm a journalist with the Bhaskar Times. You put a finger on me, I'm going to post articles of what happened with your pictures. You want that to happen? Your life will be over. If you kill me, my colleagues will publish nastier articles. You'll also go to jail. Bonus!"
