Are you lonely?
Passion is crashing as we speak
You seem so lonely
You're the ground my feet won't reach
So if you're lonely
Darling, you're glowing
If you're lonely, come be lonely with meI walked into my math class and instantly made my way to the back. I sat down in my usual seat, which is furthest from the front. It was also in the corner, a place where no one would notice me, not even the teacher. I liked not going unnoticed in math class; it lessened the chances of me being called on to answer a question.
Soon kids began to fill the classroom. Some kids went straight to talking to their friends and some went straight to doing their work. I just stayed quiet in my little corner writing in my journal like I always do. Listening to the many conversations going on around me was my only form of entertainment in the class, especially since I had no one to talk to. Well, I could be doing my work right now, it's what I'm supposed to be doing. Unfortunately, I didn't understand any of it, so I just didn't bother doing it.
"Giselle, you seem to be paying attention. Can you tell me the answer to number twenty-three?'' the teacher asked, causing my heart to beat out of my chest.
I stared at the teacher before looking at the question. Of course, I didn't know the answer. She knew that I didn't know the answer, which is why she called on me. I was about to blurt out a random answer until I heard somebody call my name. I looked over to see a girl who had her paper hanging off her desk. I looked at the paper to see the answer to the question that the teacher was asking me.
"Giselle, do you have the answer or not? We don't have all day; do you know it or not?" The teacher asked again, sounding more irritated.
"Yes, I know the answer. It's fifteen, the answer is fifteen," I replied, causing the teacher and other students to look at me with their eyes wide in shock.
The teacher didn't even congratulate me for getting the answer right; she just turned back to the board and continued teaching. The students gave me funny looks and went back to whatever they were doing, probably talking about me. I ignored them and turned to the girl who gave me the answer. I wanted to thank her for helping me, especially since she practically saved my life. Unfortunately, she wasn't even paying attention to me; she was too busy staring out the window. I didn't want to bother her, so I just left her alone.
Since I had nothing else to do, I went back to journaling. To my surprise, a note fell out of my journal once I opened it. I picked up the note and was shocked to see that it was written in the prettiest cursive I have ever seen. I read the note further and noticed that all the answers to the assignment were on it. I looked over to the girl who gave me the answer earlier. She was no longer looking out the window; instead, she was staring down at her paper with a small smile on her face.
"Thank you, I really needed this,'' I whispered.
The girl looked at me, the corners of her mouth moving up slightly before quickly going back down. She didn't say anything to me, she just nodded her head and turned her focus back to the window. I continued staring at her, my eyes unwilling to look away from the girl. She was strange, leaving me wanting to know more about her.
Eventually, the bell rang symbolizing the end of class and the beginning of lunch. All the kids ran out of the classroom and made their way to the cafeteria. I decided to stay behind hoping to talk to the strange girl. For some reason, I had to know about her, the desire to know more about her that slowly ate me alive. Sadly, when I turned to the girl she was gone. Wow, she is fast, she just left without me even noticing.
I sighed and made my way to the cafeteria. The sound of multiple kids talking made my ears hurt, no surprise that the cafeteria was not my favorite place. I only go into the cafeteria to get to the library, where I eat lunch every day. The library is a quiet place and the quiet helps me write.
