SUMMARY.
She was a soldier. Nothing more, nothing less. A daughter born in deception and the bitter cold. It was a bright day for the young girl, it was Svetlana's fifth birthday party and just before she blew out her candles, the KGB stormed in and killed the birthday girl's parents after they had tried to leave. And there was only one way you leave the KGB. Instead of disposing of the child, a much more sinister use was found for her. The child could become a useful weapon that would be more loyal and obedient than half of their guards. She could be mere leverage in the global struggle for power. The day Svetlana Makarova made her first kill for the KGB, was the day she lost her right to even be considered a child, a person; and the KGB made sure she knew that. Widow X, that's what they called her; or X for short. They took out her brain and played with it; pulled that young girl with dreams out and stuffed something else in, they destroyed her. The girl grew up seeing nothing but blood. It was always one kill after the next and nothing, nothing could ever make her forget her first kill. It was the times when she woke up crying from a nightmare that she wished she was normal and not just some mindless soldier. So now, nineteen-year-old Svetlana finds herself being told to leave Russia and protect the guards being sent to Hawkins, Indiana and she hated it. There was no thrill in being in America. In all of her years of hating and working for the KGB, Svetlana wished she could be doing something more useful than acting like some stupid guard. But the moment she stumbled upon the purest honey brown eyes that belonged to a boy dressed in a sailor's suit, she knew her life would make a turn for the better. Maybe Svetlana would have a chance to forget her past and make amends for all of her wrongdoings. Maybe she would have a chance to find herself and open up to the boy who might've accidentally saved her life.
Or, in which, Svetlana Makarova finally might be able to live a life after Steve Harrington decided to break into the Russian lab hidden beneath Hawkins' Starcourt Mall.
