A/n: Yes, I know this song came out like a year ago, but I feel like it really describes Angel

"What now?"

Aki turned to face Angel, who was walking beside him, happily licking a cone, "Excuse me?"

"Sometimes you just kinda drift outta reality; I assume you're just thinking about something."

Aki gritted his teeth, "Mind your own business."

"Trust me, I'm not one to pry," Angel chuckled softly, "Hell, talking takes enough force outta me."

A still silence fell. Sure, there were still the bustling noises of Tokyo around them, but they were all toned down by the calm, almost peaceful quiet of Aki and Angel's conversation. Aki still couldn't brush off that though; the thought that was practically controlling his brain.

"Question."

Angel rolled his eyes, "Now who's not minding his own business?"

Aki nodded slowly and returned to walking, his head held high to avoid Angel seeing the slight disappointment creeping over him. No need to engage in meaningless conversation. Foucs on the job ahead.

"I didn't mean it that way, Aki," Angel sighed, "Just ask your question."

"If it's gonna bother you-"

You're really gonna think of this disgusting piece of shit's feelings?

Aki cleared his throat, "How do you feel about yourself?"

The question was so stark it made Angel look away from his cone and towards Aki with a expression of confusion, "What?"

"You know, everybody has this... this kinda feeling about themselves. What about devils?"

Angel's face looked even more sullen as he returned his gaze to the cone, "A crow."

"A crow?"

"How caught up are you on Chinese culture?"

"I know a bit, but I'm not terribly knowledgeable."

"Crows are thought of as sinister, bringers of misfortune. Although the crow has many other attributes, such as intelligence, it is considered to be a terrible sign due to its dark appearance."

Angel continued, "I may not have the black wings of a crow, but this society views me as a black sheep. I have attributes that define me more than my looks, but everybody sees me for nothing but being a devil. You will never experience what it is like to be a crow."

Aki hated that he often found himself indulging in conversations with Angel; it disgusted him that he was actually trying to befrend the creature. I'm only doing it to make my time with him bearable, he'd tell himself, I'm not actually establishing a conection.

Damn, if there was anything he hated more than Angel, it was the fact that he had to remind himself not to get close to him, both mentally and physically. There was always a part of him that was curious about him, a morbid curiosity of sorts.

Don't let him distract you from your work.

"That's... depressing."

"What isn't, Aki?" There was a new look on Angel's face, not his usual look of boredom, but a seriosness that took Aki a minute to realize.

Aki averted his gaze, deciding that there was a point where he needed to stop talking.

"What are you?"

"Hm?"

"I answered what I am, so I'm returning the question."

Aki looked away once more, "My answer won't be nearly as poetic as yours."

"Not everything has to be poetic, Hayakawa."

Aki collected his bearings for a moment, "I'm just me; I'm Aki. I'm nothing special. Any day now and I could just leave Public Safety and lead a normal life, not worrying about what's to come."

Angel shrugged, "I suppose we're opposites."

"I'm just surprised at your knowledge. I didn't know you were into that sorta thing."

"Crows are very intelligent, Aki." Angel gave Aki a smug look.

Foucus on the target, not on meaningless conversations.

With that thought, Aki continued foward.
