The next week Steve Rogers sat at a conference table with Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, and James Rhodes.
"So, it's agreed then?"
"Everyone who has trained with her thinks she's ready." Natasha said.
"I've been impressed by how much she's studied. She's got the brains, too–that's for sure." Rhodes added.
"Take it from the last person to walk away with a black eye thanks to her right hook. She's got the brawn as well," Tony said as he rubbed below his left eye before turning to Steve. "Cap, you're awfully quiet."
"We all know why I'm quiet, Tony." Steve quickly shot back with a sigh.
"We know she's your girl, Steve. But you believe she's competent like the rest of us do, right?" Nat questioned.
"Oh I absolutely believe she's competent. I think she's mentally, emotionally, and physically ready to be out there," Steve said.
"But?" Rhodey asked.
Steve shrugged. "I just have to adjust to the idea of her risking her life like the rest of us do."
Tony laid a hand on his shoulder. "When we met her she was risking her life along side us in a fight we weren't sure we were going to win, Steve. And she was one of the reasons we're all here today. Hell, she is the reason I'm here today. It isn't fair to her to not let her be out there doing what she's good at."
Steve nodded. "You're right. I know."
"You want to be the one to tell her?" Tony smiled as he asked.
Steve nodded again. 'Yeah, thanks. I think I would."
"Alright, then it's agreed. Sophia will be on the next mission docket. Meeting adjourned."
Nat chuckled. "Listen to you, making these meetings sound all official, Tony. It's cute."
"What, Cap isn't the only one who can sound all leader-ly when he wants to, ya know."
Steve rolled his eyes as he stood and left the room with the rest of them, his only focus on finding Sophia. He went to a nearby panel and tapped it. "Friday, can you give me a location on Sophia?"
"Miss Strange is in the gardens with Miss Maximoff, Captain."
"Thank you."
Steve headed out back towards the gardens, walking through the maze of various flowering plants and trees that Sophia and Wanda had worked on themselves for much of the past six months of the new compound's existence till he saw the two magic users sitting with their legs crossed but floating in the air. They both seemed to be meditating and he wondered if they even realized they had left the ground.
"Meeting finished?" Sophia spoke to his surprise, clearly aware of his presence.
"Oh, um, yes," he said.
Slowly she settled back to the ground and unfolded herself before standing and turning, giving him a smile. She walked towards him and looked back over her shoulder. "See you later, Wanda."
Wanda held up a hand and waved. "Bye Soph, bye, Steve."
"Bye Wanda," Steve said. "Sorry to interrupt."
"No problem," Wanda said.
"I am sorry," Steve whispered to Sophia before kissing her cheek as they walked inside.
"It's okay, I told you to find me when you were done. Wanda knew you were meeting up with me. We were just doing some meditating."
"And the... floating?" Steve asked, wiggling his hands in the air.
