I called my parents Tuesday night asking if they wanted to come over for dinner Saturday because I wanted them to meet someone. I said the same exact phrase to everyone I invited- Austin and Kelly, Granddad, Mark, and Grandpa and Grandma- "Hey I want you guys to meet someone. Can you come over for dinner Saturday night?"

I would have invited a few of my cousins too but I didn't want to overwhelm Skylar. Everyone agreed and said they'll come on Saturday. Mom was really curious as to who I wanted them to meet but I didn't reveal anything. I had to keep the suspense. I texted Skylar that everyone would be joining us on Saturday. She said she wanted to help make dinner, even after I told her that Tilly would be making the food. Still Skylar insisted and I finally gave up and told her she can also help cook. She said she would be coming by 4 pm on Saturday.

...

I got a text from Xavier that his family would meet me on Saturday. I took this as a sign to tell Tara and Jarrod about dating Xavier. I texted both of them in the group chat to come over to my place because I wanted to tell them something. They were curious and tried getting it out of me right then but I remained stubborn and said they had to wait till Friday.

The week went by fast, considering I had to write an essay, finish up a group project, and take an exam on Thursday. When it was Friday, I prepared dinner for when Tara and Jarrod would come over. I settled on making lasagna and brownies for dessert. I love baking so much that whenever I get the chance to make something sweet, I always take it.

The lasagna was in the oven by 4:30 and Tara and Jarrod both arrived at 5. Right when they walked in they bombarded me with questions, after I had them remove their shoes first of course.

"Are you pregnant?" "Are you dying?" "You're not dropping out are you?" "Did your manager say something to you? I swear I'll kick that perv in the balls." "Did Luke ask you out? I sensed something would be going on between you two."

The last one caught me by surprise. "Wait what? Luke? Ask me out. No one has ever asked me out."

"That's because they all think that you're too good for them." said Tara.

"Literally. So what did you want to tell us?" asked Jarrod.

"Well take a seat first guys. And don't you want anything to drink? You haven't even given me the chance to be a good host."

"No time to be a good host when you ask us to come over because you have some news for us. You can't just invite us over with this type of suspense. Now spill!!!" said Tara. She was getting impatient but at least the two of them sat down on the accent chairs. I couldn't afford to buy a sofa so instead, I got two dark blue accent chairs and a matching cushioned bench for the living room. I also bought a small glass coffee table. My living room looked a bit spacious because I didn't have a sofa or a tv, so that created some space. I walked into the kitchen and got two glasses of water. When I returned to the living room and handed them the water, Jarrod and Tara were looking at me intently.

"Okay, so what I wanted to tell you guys was that... um... and don't freak out or get mad at me okay? I am dating someone."

"AAAHHHHH WHAT!! WHO? WHEN DID THIS EVEN HAPPEN? FOR HOW LONG?" yelled Jarrod.

"SKYLAR KANE YOU HAVE BEEN DATING SOMEONE WITHOUT EVEN LETTING US KNOW? HOW COULD YOU?" Tara yelled as well.

"Guys calm down. I'll tell you everything you want to know. Just please keep your voices down." I laughed at their enthusiasm.

Before they could ask their next question, the oven timer went off indicating that the lasagna was ready. I told them that I would tell them everything as we eat.
