Chapter 4- The Chase

Boys Will Be Bugs- Cavetown

Y/n's POV

The Golden Boy and I walked to the Newsberry town. There seemed to be a lot of friendly faces, didn't seem as violent as BonesBorough... there was a large gap for the pathway and buildings huddled together, some small houses tucked in between the larger shops. Most of the shops and stands were closing as it was getting dark. Goldie was silent the whole time, with a frustrated expression.

As we walked in silence I noticed a small inn. It looked really old and dusty but it's better than nothing.

"Hey, Goldilocks! There's an inn right there!", I pointed.

He nodded and we walked towards the building.

CAULDRON INN

It spelled out on the sign. We entered the doors and was greeted by a very loud and enthusiastic girl with dark skin, short fluffy red hair with a yellow bandana, and bright yellow and blue eyes. She looked very young, probably a year older than us at most. She wore a green sweater and a long yellow skirt that acted as a dress. She had brown leather fingerless gloves. Mushroom hanging earrings and many rings on her hands. She had lots of necklaces on too. A little palisman sat on her head, seemed to be a frog. Chonky it was.

"AYUP! ELLOO!!! WOULD YEW TWO LIKE A ROOM?", she yelled. "ALSO... WHY ARE YOU SO SHINY???"

We must be in a part where the Golden Guard isn't very known... considering the Coven Scoutd didn't even know who he was. And also cuz they though he was just some kid.

"ANYWAY, HOW LONG YOU GUYS STAYIN FOR?"
"One night, we'll be leaving by morning", I said.
"AIGHT, THAT BE 30 SNAILS! WE HAVE ONE ROOM LEFT WITH TWO BEDS! But if yall want one", they smirked.

"NO!" Goldie and I yelled in unison, our arms out to stop her.
"NAHAHAHAHA, IM KIDDING! YOUR ROOM IS ON THE LEFT DOWN THAT HALL, ROOM 5!", They pointed to the hall on the left of us.

Goldie and I entered the room and saw the two beds. The walls were covered in cobwebs and dust but it was manageable. We both sat on our separate beds getting ready to sleep.

I suddenly heard a painful hiss, I whipped my head around and saw the Golden Guard touching his fresh new scar.

"Don't touch it! Here, let me see it", I got up and sat next to him, turning so we could face eachother. I brought a hand to his chin to make sure he wouldn't move his head. His face was getting bright red but I chose to ignore it. I brought my offhand to his cheek and used a circle spell, making the scar heal. Though it might've been a permanent scar and very noticeable.
"T-thanks", he stuttered.
"Don't mention it", I got up and went over back to my bed.

"What's you name?", his voice suddenly said.
"Hm? not saying mine until you tel me yours" I smirked, looking over to face him.
"Mm", he grumbled.
"Whatever, we're going to be stuck together for a little while so might as well start trusting eachother", I shrugged.

There was a few minute silence before the Golden Guard spoke again.

"Hunter"
"What?"
"That's my name, Hunter", he looked at me with a soft expression.
"Y/n"

He smiled lightly. I haven't seen him smile before, though it wasn't a big smile, it's better than nothing.

"Goodnight", Hunter said quietly, turning over so his back was facing me.
"Goodnight" I returned. I then turned over and my eyes started to drift off.

Hunter's POV

It was morning, and sadly, it wasn't a big dream, I'm actually stuck with the Bard Owl for who knows how long. I woke up and rubbed my eyes, blinking a few times before I could see properly. The first thing I noticed was that the criminal was gone!

BAM!

The Bard Owl kicked open the door with a few small bags with them. I could hear shouting from behind.

"GET YO STUFF, GOLDIE! WE GOTTA GO!", they shouted, racing to the nearest window.
"WHAT THE-" I was cut off by two giant witches bursting through the door.

"GET THEM!"

Suddenly, the owl grabbed my hand and flew out the window.

"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO?", I exclaimed as we were now running along the roofs of the shops and houses while two witches were following from behind.
"ILL EXPLAIN LATER- RIGHT NOW WE GOTTA RUN! ILL THROW YOU DOWN, YOU USE SOME MAGIC TO LURE ONE AWAY WHILE I GET THE OTHER! THEYRE WEAKER WHEN SEPERATED"
"SO ARE WE!"

Before I could say anything else, they threw me down onto the ground and one of the guards jumped off with me, continuing to chase me. I ran as fast as I could, I wish I could do something but I was powerless! And the Bard Owl didn't know that. I couldn't let them. They'd know how weak I really am...

"HUNTER! USE SOME PLANT SPELLS OR SOMETHING!" They yelled.
"I WOULD BUT UHH— IM GOING TO IMPROVISE AND MAKE THIS A LITTLE MORE FUN, HEY?"
"DO WHATEVER YOU GOTTA DO, JUST DONT GET CAUGHT"

I toppled over some barrels, trying to slow down the guard chasing me. But it didn't do much. If only Flapjack were here, he'd get me out of here in no time and I'd have to skip this whole journey with the most annoying person alive.

I somehow ended up in a dead end, an alley way, the guard closing in on me.

"Ain't no where to run, eh?" He chuckled.

Without thinking I shut my eyes closed and threw my hands in front of my face, shielding myself. But when my hands were brought up, I heard yelling. I opened my eyes and saw vines covering the floor and keeping the guard caged.

Did I just-

"C'mon, Goldie! We gotta go", the Bard Owl said, hoping down from the roof above me and getting rid of the magic circle. Oh... it was them... "what's wrong?", they asked.
"N-nothing. C'mon, let's go."

20 minutes later...

We made it a little ways from the town before I asked, "what did you even steal??"
"I know you're the Golden Guard and all but I'm being arrest either way so I guess it won't hurt... I may have snuck into the Inn's vault and stole a few small bags of snails", they smirked, holding up two bags in their hands.
"WHA- WHY???!!"
"Well how else are we going to get food or new clothes? I mean we could hunt but we'd probably be stuck eating the same stuff everyday"
"Mm..."
"Welp! Let's get going! I want to try and find a good place to stay before sundown"

Sorry I was gone for a little while! I haven't had the motivation to write for this story in a bit. But I literally just started making another fanfic of a whole different fandom that I'll probably never publish. But yeah.
