[There is mentions of Tyland Lannister rather than Jason in this chapter. The Wiki says it was Tyland on the Green Council, but the transcirpt I have says Jason, so I went with the Wiki, sorry if it's the wrong Lannister.. <3
Also any updates on the progress of the fics will be posted to my messages on my profile, give me a follow to keep updated!]
The King was dead.
King Viserys of House Targaryen was dead and with his dying breath, he told Alicent that he wished for Aegon to be king.
The Kings death was on a need to know basis as of yet and Visenya wasn't sad at the news, nor was she happy. She was indifferent to her father's death. He was not a father to her, he was simply the King.
Her mother had woken her before the sun had risen and told them the news. Aegon was, of course, panicking to say the least. His self doubt was creeping in and he had fled the moment Visenya was busy getting the children ready. Visenya knew he needed time to calm down, she wasn't worried that he had fled the keep. He wouldn't leave without Visenya or their children.
The small council had been called to an emergency meeting, and Visenya was in attendance without her husband and future King.
"What is it that could not have waited an hour?" Tyland Lannister smirked, "was Dorne invaded?"
There was a tense silence. Visenya sat to the right of her mother an empty seat next to her for her grandfather who was standing at her side, and Ser Criston on her mothers left.
"The King is dead," Otto announced. Lord Lannister's smirk falling from his face as he looked around the room at the others. "We grieve for Viserys the Peaceful, our sovereign, our friend. But he has left us a gift. With his last breath, he impressed upon the Queen that his son, Aegon, should succeed him as Lord of the Seven Kingdoms."
"Then we may proceed now with the full assurance of his blessing on our long laid plans." Tyland Lannister looked more serious than Visenya had ever seen him.
Visenya knew of her grandfathers plans with the small council, but the look on her mothers face at Lord Lannister's words was one of shock and disbelief.
Her grandfather moved to take his seat next to Visenya, affirming Ser Tyland's words. "Yes, there is much to be done, as we've previously discussed. Now, there are two among the city watch that remain loyal to Daemon, let us replace them. Lord Lannister?"
"The treasury is well in hand, the gold will be divided up for safe keeping."
"Let ravens be sent to our allies, Riverrun and Highgarden," Otto commanded.
"Am I to understand that the members of the small council have been planning secretly to install my son without me?" Alicent asked bewildered.
"My Queen, there was no need to sully you with darkling schemes," Lord Wylde spoke up.
"Visenya, did you know of this?" Her mother turned to her, though the queen already knew the answer.
"Yes, mother." It wasn't in Visenya's nature to lie, regardless of her mother's feelings of betrayal.
"I will not have this," Lord Beesbury hissed, "to hear that you are plotting to replace the King's chosen heir with an imposter-"
"His first born son is hardly an imposter." Ser Tyland interrupted.
"Hundreds of Lords and landed knights swore fealty to the Princess," Lord Beesbury continued.
"Yes, twenty years ago, Lord Beesbury, most of them are now dead." Visenya glared at the old Lord. "You heard my grandfather, it was the Kings dying wish for my husband to be crowned King."
