there were many strobing lights on the field tonight as newport's most anticipated team ran out, still clutching oliver's jersey in their hand as they did.

only now, harley kept her cool, hoping her dad was doing the same in the stands. she stood by ronnie, photographing everything and anything she wanted, while ronnie stared.

there was a small, short moment where charles looked over to harley who was pointing the camera at them all, and in that moment ronnie sent a sweet wave over, smiling widely and turning pink.

when no response was given back her eyes averted to what he had been staring at, and her heart sunk a little. her look of awe turned into one of disgust and disappointment as she stared harley down, who was now kneeling down on the sidelines.

charles lennon looked different. his hair was shaggier than usual, above the black paint under his eyes were red marks, along with the fact that his eyes now stared down, gulping continuously as he walked to his spot, in the middle of the huge circle.

maybe there had been many things to be excited about for today, especially for charles. he should've been gleaming with pride right now but for some reason he wasn't, as he called out for their cheer, holding his hand in the middle and screaming out, he looked nothing but scared.

hearing as his name had been called out to start once again made his heart sink, and he wished it didn't. as a captain, as a senior and former player of four years, he shouldn't have felt like this. but he did. with his family in the stands, and everyone else, he felt like he couldn't do it.

but he had to of course, charles walked out, taking deep breaths after a pat on the back and a, "this is our house, chip."

from the second the first whistle blew, and from the first legitimate tackle, harley realized how much she missed this momentum. even without her brother being one of the ones to tackle, she enjoyed the fact that this feeling today gave her some sort of connection to him.

the rain drizzle added lots to it, ronnie stood back and harley took her pictures that gave her a huge chunk of mud on her camera, but it didn't matter. for the first time in a while, harley was enjoying taking pictures. she was enjoying herself.

and it went on. as nervous as charles seemed, he was doing a great job anyways. harley had never really focused on how he played until today, and she found the way he elbowed everyone off of him surprisingly good.

by the 2nd quarter everyone's uniforms had nearly turned brown, charles kept the shine on his helmet unlike others and he wiped himself down as halftime neared.

there were many things harley expected going to a football game, fights being the first on her list. but a fight with charles lennon was different, that she didn't expect.

her mind was blank as she watched charles get pushed down by a kid the same size, who now stood over him.

in charles' mind, he felt weak. staring up at this boy who was preparing to deck him in the face, he shut his eyes, bracing himself for both the punch and the fact that his dad wouldn't let him hear the end of it after this.

this is the epitome of what charles feared, and it was here.

within a second, he was decked as he expected. harley flinched, ronnie gasped and she attempted to make her way over but of course that hadn't worked out.
