Hannah Baker's Fantastic Bakery

Waking up the next morning,he got dressed, brushed his teeth, and then went downstairs and entered the kitchen. There he was met by a tall girl with blonde hair and blue eyes who was sitting in a black chair at the kitchen table. It was Kate "Good morning Charlie, "she said looking at him and smiling. "Good morning," the boy told her. Turning twoards the food pantry the boy then grabbed the two black handles attached to the two doors with his hands and swung the doors open revealing 5 rows of wooden shelves all filled with food that was neatly organized by the food group. Standing on the bottom shelf standing in rows were different kinds of bottled and jarred condiments. Way up on the fifth shelf sat different types of candy that made a sticky mess . Pulling out the third shelf the boy saw containers of different cereal and other breakfast foods that were a looked slightly moldy.
Loosing his appetite Charlie walked over to sit by Kate.Once he saw him sit down, Kate asked the boy if he wanted for breakfast he wanted to head into town and grab a delicious pastry from Hannah's Bakery. " Yeah sure", Charlie said willing to try somethingnew. "Great, thanks," the girl said. "Now usually whenever my mom is not busy she will sometimes go to this bakery since ttheir foods alot better then the groceryfoods sthwy bought which were concocted by the by Queen Olivia , but since you came yesterday my mom wanted me to take you there instead". "Oh I see, thanks'' Charlie said. ''You're welcome," Kate said. "That reminds me, my mom told me if we wanted a brown powdered donut and she gave us each a 20 dollar bill to spend at the bakery", Kate said, fishing out $20 from her jean pockets and handing it to the boy.

"Thank you," Charlie said, taking the money from her hand. "Your welcome", Kate said Once they were all ready to leave, Kate opened up the backdoor, yelled back at her mom through the empty hallway telling her that they were leaving and then the two of them headed off to Hannah's with Kate leading the way. Arriving in town Charlie saw the street and sidewalk was busy with people and cars just like yesterday. Walking the boy's eyes suddenly were fixed on a wooden pole on the edge of the sidewalk ahead of him and the sign that was nailed on it. As they got closer to it Charlie could read what it said" Kanesvill Fair on Friday-Sunday from 6-8 pm."
Curious, the boy asked Kate what the carnival was for and she explained it to him. "Every year Charlie Kanesvill has a carnival filled with really fun games and rides", she said. " Cool", Charlie said." Arriving at the bakery Charlie followed Kate as they walked inside. Standing at the back of the room the boy saw a counter (attached at the bottom Charlie could see a glass window and through it, he saw delicious baked goods all sitting nicely in five different rows. In front of it stood red tools all evenly spaced out forming a line.
Along some of the walls and windows of the building were chairs and tables. Looking at the counter the boy saw a girl working there, probably was there taking everybody's orders once they came in, Charlie guessed. The girl looked like she was about his age or a year older the boy guessed while he looked at her. She had black hair (tinted light green at the ends) and light green eyes and wore a light blue shirt with a white muffin( with a blue wrapper) on it. "Who's that?" the boy whispered to Kate, pointing to the girl behind the counter. "Oh her, that's my friend Hannah Baker''. "Oh, I see, '' Charlie said. "Is she the owner of this bakery?" he asked Kate.
She then laughed a little bit and said, " Well, not exactly" "Hey Kate, it's so nice to see you again, '' the girl at the counter said when she looked by the door and spotted the two of them. "Nice to see you too", Kate said walking up to the counter where Chelsea was, Charlie, following. It's been a while, so how have you been, and how's the family Chelsea asked kindly."Great, what about you, how's business going? ", Kate asked curiously. "It's been alright I guess," Hannah shrugged thinking about how bare it was on most days and whenever she did . Then she noticed the boy who was standing next to Kate. "I see you brought a friend with you", Chelsea said surprised. Then she froze and carefully studied the boys face like he was a fascinating new creature.Hey wait a seconed your that kid who stood up to Bud and Ruffas Keaton the yesterday," She said. "Wow what a brave and dumb thing you did", she scoffed. What's your name kid," Chelsea asked nicely.
"My name's Charlie, Charlie Bridges, I'm new here," he added".Well, Nice to meet you, Charlie, my name's Hannah,HannahBaker ,'' the girl said in a friendly tone. Charlie Bridges, that's a pretty cool name" Hannah said. " Thanks, Charlie said. Curious, the girl then asked Charlie where he was from and how he had ended up in Kanesville.
"Cool", Hannah said after he told her the story.Then Charlie asked her how she knew about what happened yesterday. Then she pointed at 5 kids who were sitting over at a table. Sincehe never got the chance to properly introduce himself to them, Charlie quickly excused himself and walked up to them.As they heard his footsteps approaching the group immediately turned around to stare in amazement at their amazing hero that now stood before tem.Before he could get a single word out, they all started thanking him forhis heroic action yesterday.Then they introducedthemselves one by one,which was followed by a myriad of hugs.While he loved getting attention, he was very eager wanted to introduce himself and tell them thhat what he did very short from amazing and that anyone could have done what he did. Once he stated his case though the kids just looked at him like a bunch of confused birds.Following that Florence,
a tall girl with black pigtails, told him that that what he did was very risky which is what he had been hearing alot the last two days. Not wanting to start an argumentabout, he just smiled, said goodbye and left to go join Kate who was waiting at the ordering counter and talking to Hannah."Well, what can I get you two today? '', Hannah asked her once Charlie came back. Just then something above him caught his eyes and when he looked up he saw a big whitve menu. In small black letters were the names of the different types of foods and drinks the bakery had. Also looking down on his side of the counter, Charlie saw a nice display of some of the bakery's baked goods. Looking at all these prices, Charlie was in total disbelief. Back at home, it only cost like 1 to 3 dollars to buy a pastry from the local bakery, but here the prices were two times as much. After looking through all their options, Charlie and Kate decided what they wanted and told Chelsea. Once she had handed them their donut the two of them began eating. Taking his first bite, the boy could taste the sweet creamy delicious spreading through his body. How do you like your donut Chelsea? '' asked Charlie. "It's amazing, but how come it costs so much," Charlie asked Chelsea.
Well, that's because when queen Olivia took over as queen she had us price our baked goods at a high price, Hannah explained. "Oh no that's horrible", Charlie said. "I know", Kate said sadly. "Anyway Kate, how come this bakery is named after you. " the boy asked her. Well, Charlie, it all started 5 years ago. My family and I had decided to make our own business and shop in town. The only problem was we had no idea what we were going to sell or what the name of the store was going to be. Since my mom was great at making baked goods and my dad was great at coming up with new recipes for different treats like cookies and cupcakes, I proposed to them that they should open a bakeshop. " Hannah said. " Since I had given them the idea and had always dreamed of having my own bakery, my parents decided to name the shop after me "Hannah's Bakery", she said. "Whenever we can, my siblings and I help my parents around the bakery. My sister Chloe and brother Luke help my mom and dad bake along with other workers, and my other sister Lily is a waitress", she said pointing to a tall girl with brown hair wearing the same outfit as her. helps my book and "Oh cool", Charlie said. "Yeah", Chelsea said.
"Hey, Kate," she said. Yeah, Kate said looking at her. "Do you have an idea about what you're gonna do for the talent show next Friday?"Chelsea said " No, not yet Kate said. "What talent show?" Charlie asked curiously.Then Lucy began telling him about it,Well, E very year just like Kanesvill has a fair it also has a talent show the next Friday."Ooh that sounds fun,Charlie said. Then she painfully laughed for a few seconds and then said,"welll it was fun untill our new mean queen forces you too have it in a small,cold,smelly cqndle lit building.She told him that it was usually held at the Kanesville Performing Arts Building,which was a big fancy building in the middle of the town .The small building they used now was out in the country and used to store farm animals.She told him that in between every act there would be big gratitude applause from everyone, including their animal friends.Sometimes theyd even give them and the audience "audience " nice" floor gifts.Curious Charlie asked Kate and Chealsea if she ever did an act and she said that uaually she would show off her orgami skills by creating some swans,butterflyes and diffrent kinds of sea creatures, "Thats really cool Kate,Charlie said." Thanks Kte said. However, now with Queen Olivia in charge of it anyone with that talent was limited to only making ooragami dragons which were really hard to make.Having already put up with these unfair rules for two years,Kate told them that she had decided to not to do it this year . Then Hannah told him about how she would make really cool food art sculptures out of different pastries she had. Hearing this, really fascinated him and Charlie asked her if she could show him some of her work . Thrilled to hear his question, Kate said yes and left to go grab one from her office.Once she was Charlie tried to compel Kate to do the talent show and told her that he would she did.Unfortunetly, to this she just said no and told him that she awould love to see him to show off some of his art skills Then Charlie cleverly shot back at her and said he would do that if he got to see her make oragami.Just before Kate could come up with another witty response,Hannah came back holding a scculpture of what looked like dog out of glazed donuts in one hand and a racecar out out of cake and frosting."Wow thats so incredible, Charlie said. "Thanks Hannah said with a smile on her face.Then she quickly became depressed and told her that with Olivia in charge she was only allowed to do big animal sculptures which took her hours to complete which obviously bored audiences.Luckly though she had made a secret tool to help speed up the process."Nice ",Charlie said.Before they left Kate remembered to order her mom something.On their way home Kate told Charlie that she would show him some of her oragami in her room when they got.While Charlie was settling into the currently cruel environment in Kanesville, some more unexpected evil was about to drop in from up above.
